4 days ago, the plastic connection shoe of my SB-28DX broke.
I've placed it in upside down, attached to the cam, into the bag.
Well, it was foreseeable. :troutsmac
I went to my local store and asked for repair and price. 100+ EUR!
Thats nuts. I was close to flaming Nikon for sparepart policies when i opened the flash to scan the complexity of the problem.
The shoe is built up quite modular and not a big thing to fix.
I called Nikon and got a replacement shoe (20EUR incl shipping) today. Thats pretty fast in old Europe.
Assembly was doable. I just had to make sure the lock bolt was placed in the white ring.
This threads only purpose is to tell you that im a cool guy who can fix things by his very own. Thank you, audience. :D
cheers

If you want something done right , you have to do it yourself.
Good going!

Some jerk dropped my beloved Vivitar 285 a while back on a location shoot.
Sheared of the hotshoe foot, no way to fix it. I asked a buddy to pick me up one from B/H on his recent trip to NY in Sept. Came back with a catalougue for me but no gun, they were temporarily out of stock even though the online store showed they had them. Murphy's Law.
Still works as a slave, have all the accesories for it including shoulder power pack, a classic flash :soapbox:

I have an Sb-28 with EXACTLY the same problem, and I have been woindering what to do about it. I have an SB-900 as my main flash, but it would be greta to get he Sb-28 back in service,a nd as a spare.
Thanks, I will see if I cna find someone who has such a spare part in stock, somewhere is Aus.
Cheers, thanks fruity :)

ouch.
However, just call your official nikon service workshop.
You will need fineworks screwdrivers: cross & slot.
The circuit board which holds the pins is screwed down pretty tight so you might want to take care you dont slip off and damage the board.
The only real trap is the lock bolt of the shoe. It runs in a white ring which raises the bolt when the wheel is used. (See picture).
I somehow managed (duh!) to let the bolt slide out of the ring guide while mounting the shoe. I had to dismantle the flash on the cam (bad, because the cables are short and flimsy).
Good luck! :righton:

I did the same thing to my SB25. A local repair shop sold me a foot for 15 or 20 dollars (can't remember exactly). I put it on myself. You can probably find the part on the internet.

Fruity,
do you have a part number / etc that I can search by. I have been trying locally, but no such luck. I will try Vanbar here is Aus, they seem to have all this stuff, but I don't know what the spare / part number is?
Any help?
Cheers

Sorry, i dont have any number or ID.
The invoice says: Nikon SB-28DX Flash-shoe.
Sounds rather descriptive to me.
Example:
http://gallery.bcentral.com/Gallery/ProductDetails.aspx?GID=2025592&PID=2198134&page=1&sortOrder=0
The Nikon workshop had no trouble identifying the part so i think its just a phonecall.
This store looks quite capable to me:

good luck
