Which color space to use really depends on where the images will be printed and what type of equipment is doing the printing.

For most photography that isn't intended for CMYK offset printing, Adobe RGB (1998) will work.

I won't say will work best because a lot of it depends on exactly what is in your images. Certain greens for example don't reproduce well in Adobe RGB (1998) color space.

I use Adobe RGB (1998) almost exclusively and find it works quite well for most of my needs.

Best regards,

If I remember correctly, 1.8 is the setting for Windows based machines and 2.2 is for Macs. Even though I use a PC, I use the 2.2 setting. I find it reproduces what my clients want.

Don't forget that all of this stuff is academic if you don't have a calibrated and profiled monitor which will require a pretty significant investment. The purpose of calibrating and profiling is to make sure what you (or your client) see on your monitor is what comes out of your printing device. (Which of course means your printer must also be profiled.)
