Clean contacts

AF 80-200 Nikor problem
Its the one with the Nikon collar.
Problem - wont focus in manual.
AF no problem.
Used to do focus on manual now and then.
Hopeful clear
dirty contacts.
Whats the best way to clean the contacts where lens meets body?

Your shorthanded message wasn't very clear Doug.

You can't Manual focus with this lens? What do you mean? That's a manual thing that shouldn't have anything to do with the contacts on the lens.

We used to use pencil erasors to clean contacts on PCB's, but I doubt you'd want to do that as it create dust. :) I would try a can of contact cleaner and a cotton swab. Spray some (way away from your camera/lens) on the swab and rub it around on the edges of the contacts and try to stay just on the very tips of the contacts to prevent the contact cleaner from getting on the lens as some of them have lubricating oils in them. Lightly wipe the contacts with either a clean swab or lint free towel of some sort to get any of that lubrication off.

Ya, the lens wont focus on manual, at least ,not very often.

Well, if it won't focus on manual, have you tried turning the focus ring? :rofl:

That's what I'm not understanding. Because focusing in manual is a mechanical thing, not electronic...

Yes, I remembered to turn the ring.
I think its slipped its disco in manual.

Ive got the 80-400VR so Im noy to panicky.
