Silly question but how do you remove the lithium battery lid from the bottom of the S2 in order to fit the MB 16? Does it just pull off or does it get permanently broken off?

Why is there a similar battery cap fitted into the top of the MB 16 ?
Is this where you store the cap removed from the camera body as it presumably is not there in order to insert more CR123s!

Hi Steve.

I did what the instructions said to do, which is hold the cap at a 45 Degree angle and pull it off. That didn't work, and I worried about putting too much pressure on the cap. I stuck a small screwdriver and gently pried while putting pressure on the cap and it came right off. To put it back on, just rotate it back to the 45 degree angle and push it on.

The MB16 has a slide in battery tray that slides in under your battery tray for the S2. I recommend buying an additional tray to make battery changes a snap. Two probes come out of the MB16 and make contact with your S2.

To make the MB16 work, some cutting with a sharp knife or an exacto blade must occur. I also used a Drummel Tool to take off the big stuff.

Here is a web site with some pictures. I don't think the pictures show enough, but I don't have a digital camera to take pictures of mine. I guess that could be rectified though.

Here are the pictures someone else posted. I hope this helps. Ken

Thanks for the info about removing the cap, I thought it might come off that way but was scared of breaking it!

You haven't answered as to why there is the same cap in the top of the MB 16, which is shown in the picture on the website you refer to

I just looked, and it is nothing but an empty little storage slot. It is about big enough for about 8 flies. HA Not very big at all.

I like the MB 16 because of the lack of CR123's and the quick change if you buy two trays or more.

The most important reason I like it is it makes the camera bigger and really feels good in your hands. I really makes a big difference when using a big lens as it gives a lot more to hold on to. I hope this helps. Ken

Can you clear up ths question for me. My new S2 arrives Friday and, after using it for a short time, I will probably consider getting the MB-16.
When it is installed, do you leave the AA's in the camera in addition to the AA's in the MB-16?

Yes, the AA's in the MB-16 replace the 123's.

Ha, I just did it!

Yesterday I modified my new MB16 to fit the S2. It only took me 20 minutes!

It fits perfectly after MINOR modifications. I bought a new one that comes with a handy white platic cover for the connectors. Most of the work I did was on this little piece of white plastic. It now goes completely over the large connector so that the connector fits tightly in the S2.

I found a solid connection between de MB16 and the S2 necessary because I shoot on tripods aswell, and did not whant my cam shaking.

I'm extreemly happy with the result and found the white plastic cover a good sollution for more stability.

If you live in the netherlands, feel free to send me a new MB16 (with the white plastic cover), and I'll be happy to adapt it for you :)

PS. When the MB16 is attached, you can't see it has been modified:) :) :)

Thansk for the great picture showing the detail required for the MB-16 battery tray, mmaathuis. It made it that much easier for me to complete mind.

As for me , I believe the extra added weight and grip give the camera that good beffy feel. Hopefully that makes sense to you guys. Hell .. .maybe it's a guy thing. :)

Anyway thanks again and I love not having to buy those 123 !
