I just bought some Panasonic 2000mAh rechargeable batteries. I used to work with alkaline batteries and they lasted for a little bit over 450 pictures. The Panasonic rechargeables are used for the first time (they are said to gain full capacity after two or three charge cycles) and I have already taken 1037 pictures !!!
I am really amazed, that's over twice as with alkalines. If the rechargeables are still to increase performance after a few times. then I am really amazed.

Do you have similar results?

Oh yes, I used 1600 mh in the S1 and found I needed to change after around 200 shots I bought 2000 mh Unomat for the S2 and I have to say I am impressed too. A full microdrive before changing, way to go!
:) I think the power management is much better on the S2
Tip keep them on trickle charge until you need them and wow.

First, check out the Great Battery Shootout. Here is the link:

The winner was the PowerEx 2000mAH batteries. They now have them in the 2200mAH range and can be found at:

Also, while at it, check out the new charger from Naha. I have two and really like them a lot. They will not overcharge and charge up to 97% capacity.

I wouldnn't leave home without my PowerEx 2000's.

I've got 24 of them but I've shot entire weddings, 10 hours, and 300 plus photos on one set in the S2. Normally though, I switch the battery trays, before the reception but I just had to see how long one set went.

I've got 1200 pictures so far on one set of batteries. The preview function is on, the LCD screen is used for playback and one third of the pictures were downloaded through FireWire (with camera on batteries). No internal flash used. This is their first charging so I guess the next two or three charges will get even better. This is really starting to get pretty odd... I have broken the barrier of alkaline batteries almost THREE times... Looks like I've got a different S2 than others. I have ordered another 8 of these batteries. It's incredible. I haven't looked into my battery tray since the 17th of may.

I have read several threads that say the Panasonic 2000mAH batteries are awesome. I guess you are proving the point Mike. I wish they had tested those batteries in the Great Battery Shootout. I have yet to really put mine to the test. I usually start out with fresh batteries right off the charger and have yet to need a change, but didnt' take 1200 photos either. Good Deal. Ken

I presently use Radio Shack 1800's in my S2 and I get roughly 300 shots p/charge from them. I have Maha 2200's on order as well as the 401FS charger so I can't wait to see what results I get from them!!

So far I haven't had a shoot go beyond 320 pics as yet, and I usually re-condition the batteries after every shoot. In case I have another session the following day, I don't want batteries that aren't FULLY charged and waiting to go.

When I get my extra batteries, I'll have to do a test and share the information with your guys about the number of pics p/charge I can get.

Does anyone know if Panasonic 2000mAh rechargeable batteries are available in the US? I've searched the web, and haven't found a dealer.

I did a search on Google and found many places that have the batteries. B&H has the 1950 MAh batteries as well. Ken
The google results:

Thanks for the help. Several links were to non-active eBay auctions and dealers in the UK. B&H does list the 1950mAh, and another site had a (confusing) listing for the 2000.

I have the radio shak 1800's also and I just bought a couple sets of eveready 2200's and I use the radio shak charger to charge them. They seem to work fine. Does anyone else use different battery/charger combo's? Is my charger really only charging them up to 1800mv? I really don't care too much as long as they don't explode!

Costco (Warehouse) sells Panasonic pack which includes a charger, 6 AA (new 2100mAh) NiMH and 2 AAA (750mAh) NiMH batteries. The charger can take 4 AAs or 2 AAA at one time. The charger is rated is multivoltage 100-240VAC.

They are selling it for about $20 US. They are available here in California.

They do not show this product on their website.
