I haven’t been back up on this forum for quite a while now, but unfortunately I have come onto some hard times and must consider selling my S2PRO kit. (now single parent w/two teenagers and trying to put one of em through college) The camera and accessories have been locked up in a clean dry pawn shop for most of it's life, packed neatly in their original boxes (for real) all pieces are in perfect working order. This set has been used approx 18 times, the kit is like new. Anyhow, could someone please give me an estimate for what the fair market value of this kit, and recommend the best way to sell this set? The set was bought in late 2002, for just over $3200 USD..
All pieces are like new and in original packaging.
S2Pro Camera w/box software
Sigma 17-35mm F2.8-4 (this is an EX lens, w/ factory soft case)
Sigma 28-200mm F3.5-5.6
Lexar CFB1GB-16-360, (1 Gig CF card)
Polar and UV lenses for both pieces of glass
Thanks,
Paul

Paul - sorry to hear your news.
If you don't get an offer from anyone here, I would guess that Ebay is the way to go. There's an S2 body on there right now at $1200 with some time to go. I'm not sure what the lenses are worth on Ebay - I would think a few hundred $$$$. It might be worth splitting the package up though...?
If you want to give the Sigma 17-35 a good home, it's welcome here in England! PM/email me if interested.
Cheers...Bob

Thanks Bob,
I was hoping to sell the whole kit, it would be an awsome kit for someone wanting to hit the ground running... was hoping to get maybe 60c on a dollar and sell the whole kit for around 1900 usd.. but I will entertain offers..

Paul, I understand your want to sell it as a package but if you decide to go eBay, selling the pieces separately will bring a higher price.

OK, I guess I will try and post it seperately on ebay, maybe it's more of an emotional thing to see this sweet kit broken up, had some good times with taking some perfect pics, and everything you need is there... but in reality, I guess there are'nt a lot of folks that go out and buy everything at once..

Some people do buy the whole thing at once. I just bought another S2 with lens and quantum battery last week as a whole unit (came with book, software and AC Adapter, but no box. Wife was kinda hinting about wanting her own, so here she goes with the photo bug.

If she wants a good kit, you may not find a better one, really this kit has spent most of it's life packed back into it's factory box, sitting in a contolled environment at a local reputable pawn shop. I got a loan against it, then could not swing the cost of getting it back out, I probly paid the monthly re-up fee on this ket to double the cost of the original loan, but I could not stand the thought of loosing it like that. About 3 weeks ago I skipped my bills and got it out, really I could run out of times counted using this kit before running out of fingers and toes. All I can say is that everything has its factory boxes with all their USA content, lenses have their hood, paperwork... everything works and looks like day one. I will try to post a picture of the whole kit..
Thanks,
Paul

If you look closely you can see the pawn shop tickets next to EX box, no dollar value to anyone else, but they cost me a bundle...

Bryan, These cameras were a great buy. Did you have Linda G. broker the deal? I also really like the 28-200 Tamron lens that came with it. The close focus distance on my Nikkor 28-200 is 6 feet (pain in the butt at weddings)and the Tamron goes all the way down to Macro distances (19"). Serge has some really good things to say about the Tamron lens, so be sure to post what you think about it. The Quantum battery will also come in handy.

Shew, just got back from ebay, between ebay and paypal, it's going to cost nearly 100 USD to sell the kit there, assuming 1900 UDS value. Maybe I will wait and see if a deal can get hammered out from this forum first..

Yeah, I picked up four of them Wayne. Great deal. Although I only got one for "myself". The other three went to good friends.
I'll have to see about that Tamron lens. It feels a little stiff and the focus, I really dislike non-AF-S lenses. hehe. But for the wife, it will work and she'll be switching between one or two of my other lenses anyway too. But she's enjoying it.

Both the Sigma lenses are AF, by the way... the Thom Hogan guide is included with the package...
Seams like I remember Swampy having some local connections to SE Michigan, if you are still interested in picking up the equipment, I could meet with your connections here for complete inspection of the equipment.

One of our wedding assistants might be interested in the kit. I will ask her but she is a poor college student that might be broke.

You might have the older model, the current AO3 AF is quite responsive, and probably more so on the D70 body.

Thanks Wayne, cant hurt to ask... ya never know, but I do appreciate yous guys checking around. I also started putting the word out in my area too. I have sold many different items in my time, but selling this camera keeps giving me a panic feeling like I am selling my kid or something, dont know why this is different.. but as we speak, the cam in my car is grinding its self into iron saw-dust, already replaced several clacking lifters that were gouged-out where the cam rubs on it, but I know that I cannot put new lifters on a damaged cam and expect it to last, the whole assembly has to be changed out, so right now it's more important to have tranportation, fun digital photos will have to wait for another time, drat.

My friend only has about $1,000 of credit available so she is not currently in the market. She tried to get in on one of the cameras that Brian and I talked about but they were all spoken for by the time she learned about it.

I would get that on Ebay soon - once the S3 comes out, they'll be a few S2's on Ebay and the price will drop like a stone I think.

Was hoping maybe someone here would snatch it, but yea, looks like I will have to place it there... before I do that, could you give this kit a sanity test, everyone knows what the parts are, could readers respond back with what they feel the set is worth? I guessed about 1900usd, but I could be hi or lo from true market value, any thoughts on this?
Thanks,
Paul

Here's a link to one that finishes in about 7 hours - put it in your Watch List and see what the finishing price is... usually they go up in the last 5 minutes.

Here's another link to a Sigma 17-35 that has a day to go and is at $202.

Looks to me like about $1700-1800 in total..?

Thanks Bob,
Suprised that sigma lens went for $350usd, all my stuff is in better shape than this, you can see the case is a little worn in the ebay picture, mine is crisp and not one scuff on any of this stuff. This proves the point, the pieces may sell for more apart than in a kit. I would probly take 1800 before I post it on ebay, looks like the camera and portrait lens is worth about 1500, another 300, would go for the (1gig card and 200mm Sigma $600 new), 50cents on a dollar is a good deal for the condition of the equipment..

any takers at 1700usd, without the CF card?

If you part the thing out you will probably do better. Each piece will go for less money than the whole kit which will include a larger pool of bidders. If you sell it in a kit then you eliminate bidders that do not have $1,700. In pieces you will also include bidders that have $200 to $1,700. The best time to put together a kit is when you have old equipment that will sell for a low bid.

aaarrg.. I can take perfect pictures of the lenses using the S2, but this web cam thing keeps either over or under exposes the pic of the S2, I will post them up there seperate tomorow.
Thanks for your help and advice everyone..
hey, before I scram out of here, is that member still around, the guy who was in the Chicago area, used to have an avatar with 2 sets of different color eyes, that guy was great, I learned a lot from his posts..
Heck, maybe I'll reincarnate with an S7K some day..

Yea! Tom! sorry I forgot his name, I used to look forward to his posts, hope he's still doing good and is still as creative as ever.
I know this is an F-Mount forum, but wondering if anyone has heard any good/bad on the Fuji S7000, that will probly be more my speed after I sell the S2 equipment..
Look for my mint condition, close to new as you can get and still be used equipment on ebay soon, I think I'm going to just use a file photo of the S2 for the ebay post, cuz the web cam photos look so nasty, plus there aint even the tiniest mar on that S2 anyhow, so it looks like new, and works that way too.... heck I havent even cleaned the CCD for the first time, havent used it enough yet, but still check every now and then by blowing up a picture of a clean white wall, still clean...

The S7000 is a decent camera. Problem for me and a few others is that there's no TTL viewfinder. It's the LCD screen on the back to compose.
Sandman has (or had I forget) one and he was doing some nice shots with it. It has the new sensor in it that the S3 is going to have too.

Mybe the S7K would'nt be too bad if the lcd displays exactly what the photo will display, but seams like it would be bad in bright light.

FYI, please see ebay #3846634170
I figured I would try to sell as a kit, first, then split the pieces up if it doesnt sell that way, remember, there aint a single scratch or mark on any of these parts..
listed minus the CF card.
Thanks,
Paul
