View Full Version : Missing file creation dates

I am having problems transferring file creation dates when downloading, via firewire card reader, S2 RAW and JPEG files into my macs- G5- system 10.3.5, G4 powerbook- system 10.2.8.

When opening a folder containing the files there is no date created info (on G4), or else it shows 7pm December 31 1903 (on G5), nor is there creation metadata in the file itself. There is a file modified date showing, which is, at that point, the same as the time/date the file was originally created, but of course that changes when the file is modified.

This happens only when I drag and drop the files from the firewire reader into a desktop folder. If I import the files via Iview, all the data is present, however Iview will only import JPEGS, and not RAW files.

I will shortly be shooting hundreds of RAW aerial photos and need to have an accurate permanent time stamp on the files.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem may be?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Wolfphotos'

I hope you dont mind me hitchin a ride on your thread but I too have a date problem. When I download from a CF card to a mac G4 I get no time stamp and a date of 1904 on every file. I'm sure prior to new year everything was OK. So I too can do with a bit of advice.

Many thanks.

the only thing I can think of is to check the time/date on the camera. I mean, the clock on the computer really shouldn't enter into this, should it? Maybe check that too..

What does the finder say about creation dates? You know, when you just open up the CF card and look at it in the finder, select the column view and see that dates appear there. Maybe that will be a start for you guys.

Good luck!
