I've had some quirky problems with my Ridata 512s. I assist another photog with a D100 and for clarity, here are what each of us has.

Him - Nikon D100, Lexar WA 512, Mac, IView.
Me - Fuji S2, Ridata 512, PC, ACD See.

On loading the Ridatas on his Mac, the mac seems to write a ".trashes" file folder on the Ridata card. The downloaded files are corrupt in some shape or form. when I put that card back in my S2 it gives me an initialize error which prevents me to do anything with the camera. I put the Ridata card in my PC and it reads the card but this time there are some corrupt/unreadable files on the card.
His Lexars shot on D100 load OK on both his PC and Mac.

Anyone else with this problem?

Same problem. I use a Dazzle Zio USB reader on my Mac (OSX) at home and CF Cards. I "eject" the card and put it back in the camera and get the initialize error on the camera. When I put the card in the PC at work the images are there and so far have been O.K. but there is a ".trashes" folder on the card and inside of that a "501_501"file. Inside the 101-Fuji folder there is a "DS_Store" file that doesn't belong as well. These extraneous files only show up on the PC after having opened and ejected the card from my Mac first. I delete them from the card in Windows explorer, eject the card, put it back in the camera and I can format it or view the images again.
Now, rather than risk losing images, I download my cards at work, burn a disk, and take the disk home If I want to look at the pics on my Mac.

I'm going to try different ways of "ejecting" the card from the Mac.
Maybe just pulling the USB cable out of the computer, instead of dragging the card to the Trash (is this where the ".trashes" file comes from?) or right click "eject".

If anyone's found a way around this or is having a similar experience, please post.

If you're downloading images with a USB CF reader using Mac OSX and NOT having this problem, please share your process and maybe we can figure out what's going on.

I work in a print shop with both Macs and PCs. I have seen many PC disk ruined by Macs. First remember the S2 uses PC formatted memory. The problem starts when you use a PC formatted disk that is full or nearly full. The Mac writes a number of hidden (to the Mac) files to the disk for desktop setting and trash. If the disk does not have room the Mac can and will overwrite files or worse the directory! You might try reading directly from the camera instead of a card reader. I can not tell you if this does in fact work as I use a PC with my S2. Any Mac users tried this? Let's hear from you!

I just got my S2 and tried loading them off the camera directly. First time ever. Into my OS X box... shut off the camera without dismounting the volume, unintentionally BTW

Anyways, I get a "card not formated" message when I restart the S2. Thi was with a IBM 1 gig

When I demoed the camera I put my 1gig into the PC card slot and went back n forth. I can't recall if I had the problem then.

I have had no trouble downloading the images straight from the camera via Firewire. The camera mounts as a hard drive. I have been able to delete the files as well and the camera still functions ok.

For Moon and easternherp:

When you download directly from the camera, are you downloading to a Mac or a PC? I believe this information is relevant to this discussion.
