After shooting for 2 hours, I found there were no images recorded. Thank God it was not a wedding or? In the "Image Display" no matter what I choose, I only get a preview. I MUST press 1st button "record" or I get no image. This is a new occurance. I have shot over a 1000 puctures without having to do this. Cannot figure out what I did to change this setting.
:( )

Bill,
I have used the PREVIEW mode to check some exposures before saving them. But one time I proceeded to shoot the next shot without saving, and I decided never to set the camera up to do that again.
I was going to answer your question, but before doing so, I was going to confirm what I was about to write. I also wanted to try out the gray bars and color bars that can be shown above and below a PREVIEW image (before recording).
Now I cannot figure out how to make my camera PREVIEW without recording. No matter how I set it up, it records every time. The manual is no help - I read it and follow it, but I still cannot get the camera to PREVIEW correctly.
I am stumped:confused:

If you want your image to record automatically, go to the set-up menu, set "Image Display" to "Postview" or "Off." If you want to examine the image before deciding whether to record it, set "Image Display" to "Preview."
To make it easier to remember, I think of those settings as "Pre-recording View" and "Post-recording View."

I had the same results. Preview, post preview, and preview with exposure graph, did not record an image. Only "OFF" did, so that is how I set it. Thank you for your reply

Could "Voice Memo" be set to "On"? If so, the camera will wait for you to record a memo after you make an exposure.

No matter how I have the "Image Display" menu configured, it records an image.

I get it now!
This may be an undocumented limitation of the PREVIEW mode.
The preview function (where you have to choose whether to record an exposure or not) does NOT work in CONTINOUS FRAME ADVANCE. It works fine in single frame & self timer modes.
Multiple Exposure uses always uses the PREVIEW method, and the menu changes slightly – you cannot see the color/gray bars, instead there is a KEEP option to combine your most recent exposure to the previous exposure(s).

You must have spent a lot of time on this. Thank you very much.
When you are in the middle of a shoot, you can't get the manual out to figure out a problem. I understand this feature now.

I just got the Tokina 24 200 ATX AF lens. A litle heavey but it is performing very well. For less than 250 with rebate, it is a nice all around lens. Have you had any experience with this lens?
