View Full Version : viewfinder image jumps as shutter close

I've noticed that as the shutter closes (and therefore mirror coming down) that the image in the viewfinder moves vertically slightly. I haven't seen this on my other Nikons, and wonder if it accounts for some 'double exposure' like halos in images after the first one when using the 'motor drive' on Continuous. I had been ascribing the exposure problem to technique (shooting with the 70-200 VR), but am wondering if this behavior of the ?mirror is affecting the images in continuous mode (the first shot is usually ok). Any ideas?

It could have to do with the chinsy little mask that is used to block out the normal 35mm frame. My guess is that the mask is responding to the mirror movement. I'll check mine out.

My partner had a problem similar to yours which we haven't been able to duplicate. Shooting outdoors in sunlight, hand-held at high shutter speed (about 1/750th), with the 24-120 Nikon AF-D and a new S2, she got vertical halo-ing of highlights on several frames. It looks like something jumped for a fraction of the exposure. Could the N80 shutter be causing this?
