I'm using Netscape to get around thanks to IE not opening any pages on the net. Any ideas how to fix without losing bookmarks and settings?

You can import all your preferences and bookmarks from ie plus it's much less of a security risk than ie.

I totaly agree with Linda.
I gave up with IE 2 years ago ,I only use Mozilla now ,there are are few sites that insist you use IE to see them ,well thats just lazy programming.
The main advantages with Mozilla ,per site cookie management ,a 100% popup blocker ,skinable ,and the source is avaible ,so if you dont like something ,alter it............
It use the Netscape error report program ,if and its a big if ,mozilla crashes ,it will report the fault to netscape (if you enable the function).
If you dont want all the bells and whistles ,and you like outlook express as your email client ,try Mozilla Firebird.
It`s just the browser ,nothing more nothing less ,damm fast.
Mozilla is under constant devolopment.

Ron,
Welcome to the club. I use Mozilla FireFox for browsing and Mozilla Thunderbird for mail. Both extremely compact, secure, and free. Run much faster than everything else I have tried. Have never had a crash or problem.

Dale,
I tried the thunderbird but was dismayed after setting it up, downloading email, leaving it up for several hours before closing it down and losing everything the next time I opened it up. Besides all the setup that had to be done again (I have several email accounts), the email I had downloaded is gone forever.
Anyone have any ideas of what I did so I don't do it again? I went back to OE for mail because of that.

Linda,
Strange, I have never had anything like that happen with Thunderbird. Same multiple email accounts, etc. Have installed it on many machines for people and have not heard back about problems.
There are some strange places that Mozilla stores files (security) and you may just find that you still have them stored on the drive. I'll do some looking and see what would be the best approach to doing a search of the drive.
I find all of the setup very straight forward with a lot of available tweaks to fine tune it to my preferences.
I'll do some digging and get back to you on this.

Linda,
Try checking through here:

There is a new version of Thunderbird out with some good security upgrades. Whom ever might try it DO NOT install it over your previous version. Instructions at the web site for Tbird give you all the easy info you need to avoid problems.
Hope that helps.

Thanks Dale,
I will try it. I'm totally impressed with firefox, so Tbird's gotta be as good.

And I find it hard to get excited about one or the other. Netscape use to be my favorite but I had lots of troublewith the email that they used, and they began to neglect its development. When Netscape was an independant company they were top notch, but sell out to the corporate bosses and the bottom line becomes more inportant than the product. I also really liked OE when it was introduced so I went to all MS with IE and OE and have not had much trouble. Mozilla Firefox iswhat my son uses and he is really happy with it. I tried it but again quit and went back to IE. I now use Outlook 2003 for email and do not plan to use anything else. I have Netscape on my work computer but never seem to use it.
Of all the browsers that I have used I think that Opra was probably the best. I liked its windowing of sites. In fact I am considering loading it and giving it another try.
I was having trouble with IE (a runtime error) that was fixed when I installed XP SP2. If your IE is not working right then it needs to be fixed, because other Windows functions use the IE code. If IE is not healthy then Windows is not healthy.
