Well at least lower cost, less than US $1,000, and it will meter through the lens, including matrix, on the S2. Buy one old used 300mm f2.8 manual focus Nikkor, have chip added, attach latest Nikon Teleconverter TC-20E (with tab removed using Dremel tool)
and you get one pretty darn good 600mm. Test image follows.

The image quality is great!!!
I already thought about selling my old lady, but I think, this will bring her back to business. The only problem will be to introduce the chip into the old lense - any ideas who can do this in Europe? Or is this also done by Nikon?
@Ron: do think this can also be done with a Sigma or Kenko Teleconverter - I do not want to Dremel my Nikon...
Anyway: great idea - great result!

Nice shot. And thanks for the tip. I have some old prime lenses that I have been thinking about having the chip installed. This might be enough reason to do that.
