Does anyone have the problem of a shutter that doesn't release consistently? I thought it was the lens and it not focusing consistently. So I switched lenses with my N90 and determined that it was the camera and not the lens. Is this an item that should be looked at by Fuji? I have not contacted them yet?

every now and again my shutter does not release when I tell it to. I have not looked into it too much.

Its not too bad on buildings but I a a very cool hawk lined up in my sights and it wouldn't shoot. I was unhappy.

The camera takes a fraction of a second to possibly more than a second to power up and be able to make a initial exposure.
I have both a CompactFlash and MicroDrive memory card. I find that the camera loaded with the MicroDrive has a much longer startup time than does the camera with the CompactFlash. I only notice the change in ready time when powering the camera up from "OFF" or from "Auto Power Off."
I never notice a delay on second or ensuing exposures. Once the camera is powered up and the MicroDrive (or CompactFlash) is up to speed, the camera exposures should be intantaneous.
There is a 7-Frame buffer in the camera. Once you have taken 7 frames, the camera cannot make more exposures until the contents of the buffer emptied into the memory card. Shooting JPG files write much faster to the memory card than RAW or TIF files, it is a simple matter of file size and write speed.
The S2 has an auto-power-off custom function. By changing this, you may be able to make the camera stay powered up to reduce the frequency of delayed initial shutter response. By using a CompactFlash memory card, you can reduce the ready time needed for the initial exposure.
Although the CompactFlash card is faster for shooting, when it comes to shooting as many frames as possible in a short amount of time, the MicroDrive may be better - it records faster.

I've noticed a delay, about a second or two, after I've pressed the shutter from time to time... I've just shrugged it off as the camera trying to find focus.

Having the camera set to Single AF Mode can delay the shutter release. The camera will not fire until focus is acheived. In Continuous Mode Focus, the shutter will release on demand, regardless of whether anything is in focus or not. You may have had your focus set to S on your Fuji and C on your N90, so switching lenses would not determine the cause. I think that on the N90, Single AF Mode does the same thing. I have a Nikon F100 and N8008s and they are the same.

I think you should be able to tell if it focus or not by checkiing the focus dot if is solid and you still can't release then it is not a focus thing. But my experience is that it is almost always a focus lock thing.

FYI:
I sent the camera back to Fuji - in NJ and received a new one about 2 or 3 days before they sent me a confirmation that they received the old one. I guess they thought that it was easier to switch than fight.
It seems to not have the sporatic shutter problem.
The jury is still out on the focus.
Thanks to all for the suggestions.
