Downloaded the trial version of the Kodak ASF "Digital GEM Pro" PS CS plugin ($99.95).
Tried it along with the free Neat Image 4 on a very noisy image on all defaults.
Results (and the original image) below. Maybe the Kodak plug-in is capable of more impressive results, but IMO Neat Image is a clear winner.
#1 Unprocessed (D70 + Nikkor 50/1.2 at f/1.2 ISO1000)
#2 Kodak plug-in
#3 Neat Image

Nice comparison, Igor. Thanks. I decided I liked the way GEM worked a bit better so that one was my choice (I think it's cheaper too).

Good test. I've already went with Neat Image and it's a little less expensive than the Kodak. I am impressed with it so far.

Thanks guys, glad you found it useful.
To tell you the truth I use NI very rarely, somehow my shots (at least the keepers :) ) have very little noise :)

Hi Ian, never tried the NN, actually I'm quite satisfied with NI.

So you won't even test it with the same image? That's a shame, cuz I heard it's good.

Downloading about 4mb on my slow dial-up connection won't be cheap and fast, so I'll pass it to somebody else.

Igor, what is this thing you call "dial-up"? :-)

It's when you DIAL... DIAL... DIAL...., the line is busy and you give UP :)
Unfortunately still no cable option in our underdeveloped town :(

No DSL either? Must drive you nuts downloading pics on a regular modem. Any way to go wireless in the Ukrane?
