How many of you use your S2 on a regular basis on a tripod? I've noticed that when I mount my S2 on a tripod, it will give an "Err" message if I don't ease it into the quick release mount. If I just simply plunk it in like I normally do with a film camera, the jarring will produce the Err. Also, I've noticed that if the body is flexed in a certain way, the Err will also occur.

I love my S2 but Fuji should realize that REAL pro camera bodies aren't made of plastic!

I use the S2 on a tripod, monopod or shoulderpod 90% of the time. I have the aluminum Kirk bottom plate PZ-73 attached and have noticed no problems. I agree, the flimsy plastic body is no F5. I'm more worried about the lens mount than the tripod socket. All lenses that allow mounting them rather than the body to the tripod are used in this fashion.

I've used a tripod with my S2 from day one, and in pretty hostile conditions, and have never had that "Err" pop up. I agree that it's best to mount the tripod to the lens when there's a collar, simply because it balances the camera better. However, I also keep a QR plate on the S2 itself for use with the smaller lenses, and I've never had a problem. I wonder if there's a connection problem in your AA battery pack?

I don't have a problem with my camera on tripod, and I haven't had any problems with rental S2 s as well. In all cases I am NOT using the CR123 batteries. Following with what Tom had to say, why don't you test without the CR batteries? They might be moving around just enough (due to the body flexing) to disconnect when the base of the camera is on a tripod. The AAs shouldn't have the same problem as they fit differently. Without the CRs you will not have onboard flash, but all other functions will work with just the AAs.

You might also ensure that the plate of your tripod head is large enough to support the bottom of the camera. You are right about the plastic body, it does flex (and the bottom is vulnerable to that) and a large plate might help.

I use my S2 on a tripod for 95% of my commercial (studio) shots. I have had zero problems related to the tripod.

I use a large Bogen (number plate is missing) tripod that has a quick release system (big hexagon shaped plates). (I would rather have smaller plates like RRS or Kirk.)

I keep all the betteries in the camera all the time when shooting.
