Is your lens on properly? If you have an aperture ring, is it locked in the smallest aperture?

A few days ago, I was fiddling with my S2 (I was getting ready to clean the sensor), taking pictures of blank walls when the viewfinder went dark. Then the LCD panels went blank. I changed the AA NiMH batteries, and was able to take 3 pictures before the LCDs started acting up again. I guess one of my spare sets of AAs had been neglected too long and discharged themselves, or I forgot to recharge them last time. I changed the AAs once more. I took about 3 more pictures, and the CR123As went limp. I had just loaded the CR123As about a week ago, but I must admit they were a mystery pair (I don't know where they came from, maybe I took them out of something else suspecting they may or may not have been drained). It seems my CR123As go flat most frequently when I am using my wide-ranging 105mm Nikkor Micro. All that focusing must put a strain on the CR123As. In all, I changed batteries 3 times in one hour.
I did get the sensor cleaned - thanks to an AC Adapter and 5 cleaning swabs.
I put in NEW CR123A batteries (20 for $25 at http://www.botachtactical.com/toscr123a3vo.html ), and a newly charged set of NiMH AAs (Sunpack 1800mah).
I did a commercial photoshoot today, and everything went well.:p
