Hello All
I'm just a guy that likes taking pictures. Not a pro or anything like that. I did a lot of research before deciding on the S2 and I'm sure I made the correct decision now.
I got the Nikon 24-120mm lens. (non VR version) It will be great for me. I read it can be a little soft at the ends, but I figured me not being a pro, it was probably good enough for me. It is. As a matter of fact I'm delighted with the pictures I've taken so far. (three days)
I've already done a lot of reading here. I'll try to search before I ask questions.
Every now and then I think I take a picture that is notable. So I'll see if I can put something up here before long and see what you all think of this amature having fun and experimenting.
:)

JR,
Congratulations on a great selection....
One little advice... get a good sturdy tripod (Manfrotto)
Looking forward to seeing your pictures...

Are you insinuating those big arms you see on my web site are not strong enough to hold this little camera? :D
Thank you

Hey - congrats - I just got mine last Friday - what a machine!!!
I too have sturdy arms but I got a 75-300 Nikkor and the tripod does make a difference - at 300 (which is really about 450) - its kind of hard to hold steady. I also got a 28-105 Nikkor - what a sweet lens.
Anyhow - we all have LOTS of learning and many pictures to take.
All the best
Eugene

Does it work with the S2 without any problems?

Yes, it is a FL-40. No, it does not work with the S2 at all. S2 doesn't even know there is a flash attached.
I even tried David Weikel's way of making the camera think its just a regular flash. (to eliminate preflash) http://davidweikel.com/E10_samples/preflash/preflash.shtml
I wanted to do the paper thing anyway to prevent any miscomunication between them.
So I guess I'm going to have to spend the extra money on another flash unit.

I have the E-20 and FL-40 flash as well and I was able to use my FL-40 flash on the S2.
The auto wide and zoom functions do not work, nor does any of the TTL functions; but because the FL-40 can be set manually you can adjust your settings manually and use it.
I must add however that I DID purchase the Nikon SB80DX flash and it is a HUGE difference in performance. The Nikon flash is brighter, and more powerful than the FL-40. It recycles incredibly fast in my opinion but this is a newby opinion especially since the only other such flash I have to compare it to is the Olympus FL-40!

Duck mentioned this in a previous post but I thought I'd say it again since you, like me, are a previous Olympus owner.
I was noticing what I thought were "soft" images out of the S2 (compared to my E-20). But when I mounted on a tripod and shot again the images were much, Much, MUCH sharper.
It seems that the S2 is VERY prone to softening if there is even the slightest motion when the image is captured. Oddly enough this seems to happen even at the identical shutter speeds as my E-20! Use the tripod. It will make a world of difference!
