I have been having problems using the pshop browser to renumber my images.
First I tried highlighting everything clicking on numbers and writing in the # I want to start with...It would start then a dialog box comes up saying that number is already in use? Then I unhighlighted everything and it sewemed to be happier.... It is confusing. PS would not let me put a letter in front of the number either..

I want to be able to put an initial like ks0001.jpg before each image in the order I choose.

My workaround was to sort by letter then resort by number this worked the other way did not.
I still could not get initials before it I had to leave it like 0001.jpg 0002.jpg which is better than nothing~ STUMPED

I tried several programs that rename files and I have found that the one that does the best is called ReName from

http://www.1-4a.com

It has a single screen that is pretty busy but once you play with it for a few minutes you will have it down. It also shows you the resulting file names and allows you to undo the process if you do not like the results. With the undo you can go back to the original names. Something most other programs loose as part of their rename process.

And here is the best part. It is free.

I have always hated renaming files and am not familiar with the one you recommend, Wayne, but I can say I love the one in the new HyperUtility software. Easy and fast. I like that.

We use the PS browser all the time. We also have found this happening a time or two. Just add something to the name. We use SmithRAW one time and then just Smith the next. We use the browser to arrange our wedding photos before converting to Tiffs. Try that next time and it will work for you. if you end up with a name you didnt need, just rename it again back to what you wanted. it seems the problem is when you arrange and rename to the same name over again.

Download it a try it. I use to use the HyperUtility and Thumbs Plus but this one beats them all in my opinion.

I will! Of course, I'd love to find a miracle program that would rename the files I've got written to cd and now want to reorganize! :troutsmac

I pretty much have to use Hyperutility because I make heavy use of voice memo, and most rename programs will give the .WAV file a different filename than the image it's associated with, which means it won't work right in the viewer any more.
