Just bought the Tokina 24 to 200 AF Zoom lens. Shot a few tests of a Magazine cover with lots of graphics. Shot with bounce flash at 125/f11,f16,f22. Also shot with just light from a lamp, wide open, at various focal lengths from 24 to 200. On my Mac screen in Photo Shop the lens looked very sharp, with good color and contrast. It is beautifully made, and a little on the heavey side, but I can live with that. I am going on a Pro shoot Saturday and will make further tests. And the price is great with a rebate this month.

I'll be interested in what you find. I had the Tamron 28-200 for use on an N80 before I got the S2, and I found the lens was "soft" even on a film camera, and very soft on the S2. It would sure be nice to get a wide zoom range in a lens that held sharpness!

I had this lens for a couple of month - and I had the same impressions like Bill.

A friend of mine had the same combination - S2 and the 24-200 - and the quality was out of range. No sharpness, CA, underexposure - the complete program.

He already wanted to change the camera, but first we changed the lenses between the two cameras. Result: now my pictures were totally out of tolerance.

Result: we went back to the shop where we bought lenses and cams, and it came out that mine was the only one working right - all the the other five lenses in the shop had the same problem. At the end I gave him mine and bought the AFS 24-85 (I just had unsharp pictures at the long end of the lense, because I sometimes forget that you need a certain shutter speed at 200 mm).

Resume: if you want this lens, check it in the shop - the problems were easy to see. Be careful!
