Hi,
I am wondering wheter nobody seems to work under Linux.
My question is easy, has anyone tried to connect/mount a S2 Pro under Linux. either USB or Fire Wire and transfered images to a PC???
Thanks for your help!

I never have, but this guy (http://www2.primushost.com/~dcoffin/powershot/) has written some open source software to convert RAW images.
Mounting a card reader (and I assume the camera, same principle) as a drive under Linux was gotten to work sometime in 2000 (See http://www.linux-usb.org/). Firewire support is being developed ATM - you'd certainly need a newish kernel to support it (ISTR The latest stable firewire support is in kernel 2.4.20). See http://www.linux1394.org/.

The Firewire connection in IEEE1394 Download mode works just fine under Linux. The protocol used in that case is called SBP2, which is basicly an SCSI tunnel over the Firewire. The S2 Pro appears as SCSI hard drive under Linux and can be mounted and umounted in normal manner.
What I'm trying to figure out now is the IEEE1394 Shooting mode, which also seems to be using SBP2 protocol. However, it does not appear as hard drive but as SCSI Scanner. In fact, the camera notifies itself as being an SCSI Scanner. What is the actual protocol the camera talks in this mode, I do not know. It may be some Fuji's proprietary protocol, or some public protocol (such as PTP, that they are tunneling through the SBP2). If anybody knows what this protocol is I would be appreciated to receive this information. In the mean time I'm trying to figure out myself what the camera talks in this mode.

Oh and BTW, if you didn't know, This "guys" RAW converter code is apparently used in such products as Adobe Camera Raw, Bibble, Conceiva, etc...:) Seems that Fuji at least use their own code. ;)
