On this sad day for americans with the laying in state of Ronald Reagan.
I'm also saddened by the death of another american giant Ray Charles . ''hit the road jack'' and ''take these chains '' were amongst the first 2 45's i bought to play on my old Dansette .
I still think his rendition of ''Georgia on my mind'' is one of my favorite all time songs .
R.I.P. Ray .

Brian

I make no apologises for this having nothing to do with photography .

true words.

We shall miss him. Besides his music, I remember that big smile under his sunglasses :)

Giant is a word overused but using it about Ray Charles seems to fit. We have a Bert Stern Print of Ray which is very rare and it shows the humor and love of this man. He will be missed.

Time to put on my Ray Charles tapes and enjoy the man's music once again. It's an old show biz saying, but it does seem that 'they go in three's.' I wonder who is next?

I make no apologies either Brian, we have it on our e-mails at work today,
and

"I still think his rendition of ''Georgia on my mind'' is one of my favorite all time songs" agree with you there, the only other version which was done justice is by Tom Jones

but who can forget Ray Charles' Pepsi campaign;
"you got the right stuff babe...aha"

RIP :beerchug:

I really like the work Ray did on 'Seven Spanish Angels.'

What about "Right Time"?

One of his best. Certainly not the right time for him to leave us.

I agree with Ron on two points here , thought about the 3 thing myself ,it happens over here too , normally with actors.
And .
I've a fabulous Ray Charles album called ''Friendship'' ,I put it on last night
His version of '' Seven Spanish Angels'' with Willie Nelson just blows you away.
The tributes will hit the papers over here this morning , but i'm sure many, many music lovers around the world will have their own memories of Rays songs.

Brian

p.s.
Serge you're right ,if Ray had'nt done it first Toms would be tops for me

The TV and radio has been full of tributes to Ray down here in OZ as well. One entrepeneur who managed a couple of his tours down here said that he was very precise, if he was booked for one hour, he did one hour. Not a minute more or less. I assume that he changed over the years, I saw him in 1964 and his minders had to drag him off the stage. It's a memory I have carried with me all these years, he just seemed to be enjoying himself and didn't want to finish.

It's always tragic when someone's passing reminds you or enlightens you to the breadth of their talent. I don't own any of his music but always enjoyed it, which album or Best Of should I get if I was to pick one up...

(Please don't reply "all of them" cuz I have 2500 CD's, my wife will kill me if I buy all of them.)

A sad day on this side of Atlantic ocean too. Ray Charles was a giant also in Europe. His smile, his talent, his love of the life has no territorial limits.
