Sigma 17-35 EX / 2.8 and Nikkor 70-300 D 4-5.6 ED

Version HSM of 17-35 EX/2.8 for nikon mount exists ?

I had a Sigma 17-35 2.8 EX and was very disappointed in it, the edges were really fuzzy even at 5.6, I put mine in the bin where it belonged, wish I did it earlier as I messed up a job and lost lots of money and pride. Maybe I had a Nasty lemon. If you are still thinking of getting one, Check it out well, before parting with your money. Now I Only but Nikon lenses, you pay more but NO lemons.

I have to agree that the Sigma 17 - 35mm isn't the best on the market. Mine isn't bad at smaller fstops but over 5.6 the corners do fall off a bit. If you really want one, I'll give you a good deal on mine. The Nikon is far better but costs twice as much. If you can live with 18mm on the wide side, the Nikon 18 - 70mm DX is a great deal as is the Nikon 18 - 35mm. The DX lens is only suitable for APS sized chips, while the 18 - 35mm will go full frame (if that is a concern for you).

I purchased a Nikon 80 - 200mm 2.8 EDAF used a couple of years ago. It's the 2 ring design. It is relatively inexpensive on the used market and is a very good lens. Excellent colour, contrast and sharpness. Couple this with a 1.7 or 1.4 Nikon tele converter and you have the best of both worlds, a fast 200mm and a good quality 280mm or 340mm with the converter.

Only speak from personall experiance , but i had the sigma 17-35 on my S2 for 2 years , only got rid of it last year because i bought the Nikon 12-24 & 17-55 so it became redundant .
Bit of sun flare but thats expected in a W/A , touch of pincushioning as well , not much .
These shots i know came from the Sigma , taken 2 years ago now .
Sorry can't speak about the Nikon , never owned it , maybe Igor has .
