I am using card readers on two of my computers. One is win 2000 and the other is XP. The 2000 is a firewire reader and the XP is a usb reader.
When I try to take out the memory card, I am told that I am supposed to stop the reader first. If I stop the reader and insert another card, the reader doesn't recognize the drive in either machine. I then have to restart the computer.
Is anyone else having this problem?
Any suggestions?
Thanks,

Solution: Fire Bill Gates.
Or do this: put the card in the reader then plug the reader into the USB or Firewire port. Windows should recognize the card as a disk. When you are finished "stop" the reader and unplug it fron the USB or Firewire port. Then remove the card from the reader and put in another card. Plug the reader back in and Windows should load it up and display the card as another disk. What a pain in the butt. I have tried everything and have found out that the above procedure works for me. So that is as good as it is going to get.

Wayne,
I'm with you on firing Bill Gates! I hate windows - all flavors!
Thanks for the tip. This is a whole lot better than restarting each time.

Wayne's method (above) has been working for me. Thanks Wayne!

I had the same issues on my machine until I started using a "Datachute" by Antec, VERY fast transfers.
It is a PCI to PCMCIA bridge so there are none of the issues with the annoying crashes. It can be be a bit dodgy on a dual proc machine depending on the chipset.
