Ok, 1/125 is slow...so.....

I pushed it higher in manual with just the pop up..

No problem shoot at any speed you like, no slow curtain or anything..

After this little success, I tried it with studio lights and a pc lead.

No joy... curtain blackout at anything over 1/125..bummer.

So, I tried it with a radio slave.. same thing.. bummer.

Finally I tried it using the pop up flash to trigger the studio light via a slave...

Fantastic no curtain showing at all at 1/500.....!

Also works if you use a Metz with a peanut slave in the pc lead triggered by the pop up...

Now can anyone explain this, and yes I'm probably breaking the camera's innards...

There is no way to have the popup flash fire at speeds higher than 1/125. Try doing so in shutter priority or manual, and the top display may be flashing 1000 or something, but if you look through the finder, there it is, defaulting to "1/125" The camera simply won't let you.

By 1/500 your flash curtain would be just a slit, maybe about 1/4 of the frame wide, so it's impossible with a single flash to get proper flash sync.

oooops... you are right.... havn't looked in a veiwfinder for info for years...!!!!

Tested it today in a 'real world situation' and yes 1/125th it is....

I remember Nikon would upgrade a particular camera's sybc curtain if you paid them enough. Wonder if Fuji or Nikon can and will with these...?
