Hello all,
are there any alternative and better hard plastic protectors for the LCD? I use it all the time and the quality is unacceptable.
Thank you,
Dimitris

2 Weeks ago I went through the Buy/Sell/Trade and the guy spoke about a "da Products" Protection. So check it out:

http://www.daproducts.com

For the S2 you have to use the "Mini"-Type, it costs 6,- $ plus 2,- $ for shipment - which is IMHO ok. I received it after about 8 days (shipment to Germany) and you can pay by Credit Card.

They have it for all kinds of DigiCams - I also bought it for my C5050, and I love to have no Tupperware-Protection on my S2-Screen anymore ;-)

Traum-

Can you find another camera and take a picture of it with it installed on the back of your S2 so we can see what it looks like?

Thanks!

Bryan

Hello Brian,

I'll do it tonight - if it's ok for you if I use my Olympus for taking the photo ;-)

That's UNACCEPTABLE!!! You should go and get another S2 and take it with that! haha

No problem. Just want to see what it looks like before I go and spend that much money on something. :-)

Thanks!

There's a picture of the DA mini protector on the website. I ordered two myself.

These guys charge what they can. I use some overpriced material for protecting PDA screens that I cut to size. Probably a similar material. Prices are steep for sticky plastic, but at least what you ordered is cut to size...

I promised to insert some pictures, but it did not work - anyway, this is the link to pbase where I placed them:

http://www.pbase.com/traumlandschaft/da_products_on_the_cams

Please do not watch the other pictures - they were some tryouts how pBase is working

In general: we are not talking about some worthless adhesives, but about real Plexiglas (is this also the word in the US of A? Anyway, its is a thick hard plastic plate).

I love the stuff - even if I see on the photos that I have to cleam my cam a little bit ;)

PS: the material itself is absolutely clear - the black borders come from the Perm-A-Stick, which is used for fixing the plate...

I just sent my S2 to Fuji NJ to repair a persistent "Err" message and got a loaner body from them to use in the interim. Anyhow, I sent my body in with the screen protector still attached and the loaner came without one. Well, I don't want to scratch the loaner screen and owe probably big bucks so I just stuck a piece of clear mail packaging tape over it and trimmed it to size with a razorblade. Seems to work pretty well except for some air bubbles.

I am pretty happy with the "daproducts" protector.

Quite a bit better than that. Check out the site or the pictures above.

No need to find another S2. Use the self timer and a series of mirrors (without any smoke) to take a picture of the back of your camera.

Thanks traumlandschaft! Guess I'll be ordering since it looks good. hehe.

So, did you try the smoke and mirrors or use another camera? HAhaha.

Thanks again,

Bryan

Maybe next time.

I suppose the thicker material may offer some impact protection. Except that it doesn't spread any impact force away from the LCD window to the surrounding plastic.

That's still one hell of a markup for a rectangle of acrylic with adhesive ;-)

I'm happy with mere scratch protection provided by the PDA protector material.

Sure it speads - when you see the the protector, it sticks on the black frame of the LCD window. And behind this black frame you are already on the plastic material of the back of the camera - so you got your "spread of impact". Anyway, even if there would be no support meterial, you would spread the forces, because you do not have the point load of the direct scratch but you unload it to the complete frame of the protector (just pure Physics).

So stay happy with your adhesive - I am not, and so I canged it. As said at the Oscar's: we live in a fictional world... ;-)
