Just thought I'd offer my congratulations to the Eukraine on your win at last nights song contest.

Igor - this internet is a strange thing, making the world a smaller place - instead of admiring Rusiana ;) last night on the TV - I thought of you

For those of you (I guess from North America) who have no idea what this post is about, here (http://www.esctoday.com/news/read/2776?PHPSESSID=0d41a8ffadfc71e44d5d624979d0fa7f ) are all the details.

We watched most of it too . I thought the English entry deserved better , but politics , i guess .
funny thing the cypriot entry was sung by a 16 year old from Gillingham in Kent , My home town here .

Doubt if Igor along with most of this forum has a clue what we're on about .

Brian - I think the Eurovision song contest peaked with Bucks Fizz (which incedentally I woke up singing this morning !!) perhaps it was because I was in my early teens when they won !

I'm from the UK, but work with HM Forces in Cyprus - we only have one TV channel - and they chose to show the Euorvision, so we hd little optin but to watch. I have good friends in Rainham - so thought the same as you when the Cypriot entry was announced !!

Just one final point :soapbox: I am from Scotland - 'England' didn't have an entry - Great Britain did !!! Which was very good I thought

Our non European participants are really going to struggle with this thread now !!

This last Eurovision winner I knew about was Nicole from Germany. I was in the country when it occurred and you would have thought that Germany had won every gold medal in both the summer and winter Olympics. I thought her song was very weak.

Brian - no worries, I do get a bee in my bonnet about that one.

Ron - oh dear  - sorry

Mel - it's a big thing winning the Eurovision - and there are some very strange winners - last night being one of them. Great looking, great dancing - duff song.

Steve - I went to school in the North East. Of my two best friends, one moved to Rainham, the other has lived in Pompei fopr the last 16 years. Until I moved to Cyprus 18 months ago, I used to visit each place twice a year - I've had some great nights out in both :beerchug: :beerchug: :beerchug:

Last time I watched it was when Abba won (can't remember if the Yanks know who they are...) but don't think we've had a good entry since Sandy Shaw, or maybe Riff Pilchard's "Congratulations".

Mark, you must have some disappointing evenings with just one TV channel - can't you get satellite? We avoided Eurovision last night by watching a Brazilian film on BBC4.

Igor, please tell us the Ukranian angle on all this....

Cheers, Robin

Thanks for the congrats! I had no idea before started to get congratulations this morning from my US/W European correspondents and friends. :)
I don't watch TV at all, so all news come to me from Internet.

Thanks again, I'm really proud.

Great nights out in Rainham?? Quite! Brian, I haven't been to Rainham for something like 30 years but even so unless things changed. :D

Yes Brian I have traveled a little. Born in Dartford, moved to Rainham then back to good ol Dartford and then in 83 came down to Lee On Solent. So there you have it!! Is the Strand sill around. A little boating area I recall. I tell you, I'm gonna climb in my car one of these days and visit just to see if I recognise the old place. Wavely Rd here I come!

Steve , do you mean Wakeley Road ?.
No change there apart from making the first part (by the park) one way up to Scotts Ave .
'Concordes' still there , and a dump .
The only thing to change in the last 30 yrs are a sm roundabout in the High St , and traffic lights at the bottom of Miersborough rd . oh yeh the prefabs in Soloman Rd have been demolished for new housing .
Thats it tour over .

Brian

P.S pete , i think the voting is the only thing worth watching too .

Steve and Brian - sorry for not replying sooner. Perhaps I should rephrase my 'great nights out in Rainham' comment.

I've had some great nights out OF Rainham (with my Rainham dwelling buddy !).

Pompie on the other hand - I did have good nights in Pompei, and from Pompie to Amsterdam :monalisa: :beerchug: :guzzle:

............and now 3 children !!!!!

Ahh the good old days.......
