I was thrilled with restoring my 16 month paint job by using a clay bar on the paint for the first time. Doing that procedure and doing a special wax treatment really made it look better than new.

This is just a snapshot, but I'm proud of my swirless black metal flake paint job. :)

Yikes, talk about a mirror-finish. Obviously, you can now do landscape shots as reflected off your wax job. :)

I've kinda dropped my car for photography. LOL. So it's been about 5 months since I gave it a real good once over. My once over's usually take a day and a half. I'm ALMOST done with the outside. I got 3 rims to polish and dress the tires still, then I'll be done with the outside.

But I do pretty much everything to it when I clean it like this. Even polishing the door jambs and scrubbing/dressing the wheel wells. Pretty much no crack is left untouched, including under the hood and trunk. I dropped my car club for photography, otherwise it'd be spotless every day.

Usually, waxing it only takes me about 40 minutes to get it looking like this. Today however, I ran into a problem where the accellerator I use in my wax dried up. So I had to wait on the wax, so that took about 3 hours, plus the extra pre-step of clay baring it (about 35-40 minutes alone) and post wax gloss enhancer (another 25 minutes).

Hmm. This could turn into a long post. LOL

I think I better move this to the almost anything goes.

Swampy,

Please tell us the name of wax you use. It sounds like it's a multi-step procedure and all I'm used to are these one step types.

Did you use an electric buffer or do it all by hand?

How long does the shine last using that wax you have?

With a car that expensive and the work you do to keep it clean.....I'll bet you park a mile away from any other cars in a parking lot.

Great job.

LOL Brian!!!

Gary - I use Zaino products. You can find the here:

http://zainobros.com

The initial setup isn't bad at all really, and keeping the shine is very easy, unless you blatently ignore doing anything at all.

For a year, I kept the shine on 2 wax jobs. But, I parked in a garage, I dusted the car in the morning with a car mop, after work, I dusted again before driving home, then parked in a garage again. Once a week, I would dust and do a "preventative maintenance" with a Zaino product. It's a spray liquid, you spray on, wipe a little, then lightly buff. 20 minutes, your car is done. You can substitute the dusting by using a car cover though. :)

I use thier wax, with accellerator, which, basically, you get a big bottle of wax, some smaller bottles and a really small bottle of accellerator. You put some wax in the small bottle, a few drops of accellerator, shake and you're ready to wax. Wax with straight movements, not circular, by hand. Do sections at a time, a door, a trunk lid, half the hood (bonnet for the Euro people), etc. Wipe it off immediately. There's very little to no wax "dust" while you're wiping either and you can put this wax on in direct sunlight if you want. I find it easier, like it's not easy already, to wax in a shady area though. This wax isn't hard to get off at all, unlike most others.

Directly after waxing, I use the gloss enhancer spray (same stuff you use in the preventative maintenance), which basically is the difference between the S2 and other camaras. It put the BAM! in the shine.

Then, like I said, I just use that spray once a week real quick and it's all good. Today, I tried thier clay bar, which sucks out iron from your brakes, the street, etc. Bird dropping stains - I just can get over what a clay bar does on a 1 1/2 year old paint job. It's supposed to do serious miracles on older paint jobs as well.

So, usually, 40 minutes is all I need to do a complete wax under normal circumstances. Today was a wash with wax stripping dish soap, clay bar, wash with Zaino car wash soap, wax, gloss enhance.

The only problem I have with this wax is that the rims on my car get really dirty looking but the car stays nice and shiny. LOL. This wax is a UV blocker and the car wash soap does not hurt the wax either supposedly. The wax also supposedly bonds directly to the paint, unlike other waxes that just coat the paint and fill in microscopic holes with it's thick, hard to get off compositions. Man, I should be a Zaino sales man. LOL

The shine? Melody thought my car was shiny when she see's it. I hadn't waxed it since like November or around there AND I neglected it by not doing anything but going to regular car washes. Also, the water still beaded up, so that should say something too. :)

Ok, enough outta me. I think I just sold someone on Zaino. Don't forget to get a water blade from California Car Cover company. Save you plenty of laundry and get your car dry really fast. It's a big squegee thingy, works wonders. I did the leather, wax, gloss enhancer, cleaned the wheel wells, windows, chrome, etc. with 2 large towels (smaller than hotel bath towels) and 2 wash cloth sized rags. Basically, I didn't do any drying with a towel or shamois.

Hope this helps! LOL
