Tonight during a session my S2 just stopped dead. I thought batteries so I replaced them. This brought the camera to life but I got an Err message and it wouldn't do anything else. So I replaced the Cr2 or whatever they are batteries, Same thing. Finally I turned the camera off, held down the shutter and turned it back on, bingo, it fired and was fixed. Anyone else ever have this happen ?

Yes, I've had this happen several times and it is always appears to be battery induced. Sometimes the batteries are questionable, sometimes they are fine. It seems to me to be more connected to battery contacts, weather and karma than to the actual charge remaining in the batteries themselves. Taking them in and out seems to fix the problem.

Hmm... This sounds familiar. Do you recall if the rear screen was blank?
My S2 had an "Err" message on the top display and the back display was blank. All it did was autofocus when the button is depressed. Sometimes functionality would come back for a split second. Before the "Err" totally disabled the shutter and rear display, I noticed the "Err" come on every now and again and disappeared when I started to shoot.
