Anybody printing with an R800?

I just purchased one yesterday and I've been printing on Epson Premium Luster Photo Paper. The photos look pretty good, although, not as effoetleesly as using the HP 7660.

Takes some tweeking, but the photos look a little better than the HP prints. And I always thought the HP prints looked really nice.

I haven't tried printing on glossy or semi-gloss yet.
Those types of paper are what everyone has been raving about.

The Ultrachrome inks on these papers are waterproof.

Soak them in water and even run you hand over the paper surface: the ink doesn't "move".
That's the main reason I bought this printer: waterproof AND longevity.

Yep - Ross and I have one. We use Epson premium gloss (they don't sell the lustre in the UK) and get very good results. The UK printer also only comes with only one ICC profile which isn't good - I use the US profiles.

What program are you printing through?

I only use QImage, as it prints better than PS or the Windows "crap". lol.

I printed a panorama on Epson Pano paper, but had the gamma set top high and the print came out too light. It was my last piece of paper, now I have to wait til later today til I get more.

So far, I really like this printer. I haven't had an Epson since the 785 EPX.

For the (my) record:

Used the Magenta and Cyan carts that came with the printer and one additional of each. Total 8x10 prints: 124

The original set gave me 49 prints. Second set gave 75 8x10s.
I don't know if the orign. are full or if they are partially filled. Maybe more ink is used in a new machine to "charge" the system. Who knows?

Yellow is next in-line as being used the most.

Edit(05-14-04): Made this edit because my previous numbers were wrong.

O.K, another "usage" report:

Magenta & Cyan- 45 8x10's

Gloss- 97 8x10's ( not accurate, because I did print a few "matte" photos)

Blue- 169 (!) 8x10's

(Red: Still going strong!)

Hey guys,

I have the R300 so I don't have the archival, If I sold an occasional 8x10 it would make sense to purchase the 800, but for larger orders I send to the labe anyway...

Now for the question......

What do you like about Qimage that makes it better / easier than printing from PS?? I am not saying that it's super easy to print from PS, but I just don't know anything differant. Please do explain what you like about Qimage

Thanks,

Adam / Acme

Adam,

Basically just that it is so easy. Qimage copes with all of the optimisation. Why don't you download the 30 day trial and give it a go!

Thought I would revive this old thread and ask if any of you with the R800 have had any clogging issues? I have a new one and am undecided whether to use it or sell it before I use it. I've heard/read where some have had clogging with this printer. Of course you only read the bad stuff and those without problems don't complain. :) I wouldn't be using it everyday and it might be sitting for a week before the next print job.
