Hello all.

Can somone please tell me how to get my picture dead center on the paper when i print.I was wondering if there was a setting to use on my Canon i950 printer or in photoshop.I always print with a white border and try as i might the print always has a bigger border on one end,not by much but enough.I was reading in a magazine today that when using an Epson printer you check a box in the printer driver to center the print and wondered if i was missing somthing in the Canon driver.Any ideas?

Corel Draw and Adobe Illustrator will do it, but I also use something called PixPrint to handle this problem. I also use an Epson printer and can check that box but with PixPrint I can center and space multiple pictures on a single page.

Rob,

We need to know a little more before we can help you very much. What software program are you printing from? What is your editing software?

You might try setting your margins to the larger of your minimum margins. (Does that doublespeak make sense.)
i.e. If your minimum top margin is 0.50" & your bottom margin is 0.70" many printing programs will center within the margins--not the actual page.
To overcome (for some printing applications is to set your default margin for the top equal to the bottom & your right equal to your left.
Also make sure your alignment guide (for right/left balance) is properly placed, as if it is off your resulting prints will be off by like amount.

Good Luck

Set the margins the same for both sides of paper, check at printer properties that the paper size is the same as the dokument, for ex. A4 on printer A4 the dokument ab on the printer properties check the box that says center prints on print area or something like this, the expresion may vary by the printer type and driver.

Or do a calibration with the photo in Corel Draw (any version) , and use the Corel Draw as Print Layout , on the properties of print command go to the layout , center image on print area.

Good Luck

Hi Rob.

There is indeed an option to print in the centre of the page. Should be in the first dialog that pops up when you select print ( if memory serves :) )....

( this was one thing that pleased me having upgraded from an HP 895cxi - the HP always offset 'centre' because of a small offset for paper feed - the Canon doesn't do that - centre mean't centre ! ).

My method is to make sure that the 'physical' size of the printed image is the wanted final size ( usually by resizing the image to print at the required size at 300dpi ) and then print with scaling at 100% and image centred.

I believe this is an operating system dialog so should be independent of application - my experience though is of Windows '98 and Paintshop Pro... :)

Hello again...

Had a quick look at the dialogs - the one I was thinking of was a Paintshop Pro 'Page Setup' dialog. Elements ( same as Photoshop x ? ) has the option in 'Print Preview'.

See attached below...

Keith.

Hello and thanks for all your replies.
Keith i use photoshop 7 and the print preview box is very similar to elements.I also make sure the centre image box is checked but this dosnt seem to make much diference. The end of the print which is last to emerge from the printer has a bigger margin than the rest of the print. However i posted this same problem on http://www.dpreview.com and was told to use the borderless print option and after fiddling with a few settings got perfect 4x6 prints,5mm white border all the way around and picture slap bang in the centre lovely jubbly.I havnt tried A4 yet but cant see there will be any problems.Happy S2PROing.

OK on all that Rob...

Glad it's all OK... I had the same problem with my HP and found it very frustrating trying to get the prints centred  but as I said, it was one thing that worked straight off for me with the i950 - and given that the i950 can do borderless, it doesn't need a small feed margin - unlike the HP.

Happy shooting !
