To buy the S2? I have a Nikon F100 and a Nikon Coolscan 4000ED that I am thinking of selling to purchase my S2 but not sure if I am going to regret it afterwards.

I sold several medium format cameras, and all my manual 35mm bodies. Not specifically to buy the S2 but because they were sitting around too much.
I kept my N80 body and 2 Nikon negative scanners.
I do need to get rid of the 250-300 rolls of film in my refrigerator though!

I'd say that depending on your circumstance (i.e. if the analog equipment is in constant use or not) then you may well regret not selling it now while you can still get a good price for it. I guess it depends on how much you value your film equipment and how much use you are getting from it
After watching my medium format equipment gather dust, I sold them last fall. I did ok with what I got, but in the months following I noticed that not only did the price of used film equipment fall, dealers were getting very picky about what they would take as trades. Last week when I checked on one of my local retailers, they were basically saying that you could buy Hassies for a lot less this year than you did last year. I expect this to continue and that film cameras will not hold their value as they once did. Anything that cannot be made to work with digital is in danger of losing it's value. This goes for old Hassie lenses and bodies as well as older Nikon's (not that your F100 is old) and even Leicas. (Rare and collectables are still doing well). I still have two Nikon film bodies and a 4x5, but everything else film-wise I have sold. I did hesitate about the scanner, but in the end I figured that I could get scans done pretty cheap and it wasn't being used all that much anyway.
However, consider that with digital cameras, you can't expect that your investment will hold for long. As equipment changes rapidly today's desired camera is tomorrow's big yawn. Remember to put some of that money you have saved by not buying film and processing away for the next digital camera, because there is going to be another one down the road.

Nikon FG(2), FM2n, F90X, Pentax 6X7 and Pentax 45mm lens. I kept my FM3a and a AIS 28mm/f2.8 and a 36-72 Series E f3.5 for my nostalgia days.

Hi,
Thanks for the responses, lots of food for thought there.
Well I put my stuff up for sale, I think I am doing the right thing.
I got my F100 for a bargain when I bought it so I can still sell it and hardly be out of pocket so thats a good thing. And I am not attached to my camera that much, I am more excited about getting the S2 than upset about giving up my F100, so I guess that means something.
Thanks heaps,
Rachel.

Hi
I sold my Nikon F90X and Canon EOS 500 but still keep my F100 as a backup for my shining new, one day old Fuji S2.
I think having analog as a backup is more economical, more safe and is giving me more possibilites than having another digital SLR for a backup.
So now I have only one analog body F100 and I plan to keep it for years. But maybe.. I will replace it with F5 when the price drop. I always wanted to have F5.

Sold an F5 and really took a beating on it (I bought it about 6 months after they came out). Will probably pick up a cheaper Nikon body to go with the lenses I use for the S2, especially for fine art prints. I have a Minolta DiMAGE Scan Multi PRO that I'm using to gradually scan three decades of film as well as the stuff I still shoot with my XPan.

Like many people here I sold much of my film equipment, I have no 645 gear left, but retained my FM2 for sentimental reasons. I also sold my fim scanner, glad to see the back of it.
Once again in common with most people here I found that the price of second hand film equipment has fallen a lot.
The advice I would draw from my own experience would be if you have film gear gathering dust sell it now, prices are only going to get lower.
Happy Shooting
Simon
