Can anyone verify this for me with thier S2? Take the AA's and the CR123's out of your camera and plug your AC adapter in. Look through the viewfinder and manual focus on something with the camera off. While looking through the viewfinder, pull the power cord off (remember, the camera should be off during this whole process).

Notice anything about the viewfinder?

I haven't AC adapter, however if you take out all batteries viewfinder goes dark.

Thought so. So, this is basically telling me that the camera is using power, even if the camera is turned off...

That is why I remove the battery tray from my MB16 after use.

Nikon's grid display requires power to become transparent. Without power, it partially polarizes and becomes dark. This is true whether or not you have the grid lines enabled. The power drain is insignificant. I get many rolls and several months out of a set of batteries for my N80 body. The film counter LCD also is constantly powered if you haven't noticed.

There is a noticeable difference in my S2 with the CR123's IN or OUT while my S2 is "TURNED OFF".

With CR123's:
1. Top LCD has two horizontal lines - the same ones to separate the status info when the S2 is turned on.
2. Viewfinder is bright and clear with focusing areas and grid display.

Without CR123's:
1. Top LCD is blank.
2. Viewfinder is blurry and no focusing areas or grid.

In this case, my S2 will not operate without the CR123's.
