Another person asked this question, but nobody answered it. I have also noted this question unanswered on several other web site forums. Can a 283 be used on the S2?

I just sold and sent off my 283 a week ago...
I had a Nikon N80 and the Fuji S2, but never tried the 283 on either one... I purchase the Nikon SB-28 when I got the N80 and F100 and never needed the extra flash...

Hi Duck,
I'm using the SB80, but want it to be triggered by the 283 on the S2. I also like using the SB80 wireless. I don't want the camera to explode.

The sync voltage needs to be low for the S2. You can test your flash with a multimeter and see if it makes the needle jump. I have read that the 283 can generate over 100 volts of burst power that goes through the camera's sync system. For the S2 this is too high. The solution is to buy a voltage stabilizer from Wein or Paramount that forces a 6 volt burst when the camera's sync is closed. I have never heard of a Nikon flash being a problem.

Wayne,
Thanks, once I find my voltage meter, I'll test it. Can I connect a Lumedyne flash to the flash sync without any problems? I see your posts all over the place and figure you to be an expert of sorts. I appreciate your opinions.

I have only used a Nikon SB24 and potato masher Metz flashes on the S2. I havent even hooked the thing up to a studio system because we use a remote slave to fire the studio lights. In fact we have done very little studio work with the S2. Most all of our S2 work has been outside with fill flash or no flash at all.

Thanks Wayne, I'll hook it up and see if any smoke comes out of the S2.
