S2 quality w/ Wide angles lens

I'm checking this out for a friend. He bought an S2 and is trying to do product shots with Good Nikon Glass 18mm Wide. He's tried 2 lenses and both times he says the files are soft. I told him that I've been real happy using my S2 but the widest I have is a 24-80 Nikkor. Anyone have any feedback on S2 quality with Wide lenses ? Thanks, Dave

I'm using a Nikon 18-35 zoom. think that the results are stunning - pin sharp!

I use a Sigma 14mm ƒ2.8 and the results are fine.

How are his results with a telephoto lens. I would think that if the camera had a focus problem, it would more likely show up with a tele lens. Maybe I am wrong. Maybe the focus on a wide is more critical because the rear element is closer to the sensor. He should do his tests with the lens stopped down a bit to check ultimate sharpness, and wide open to check focus.
