Well, my CCD was pretty dirty, and it was definitely time to clean it. I got it pretty clean, but I did notice a fine scratch on it. I don't know if I did it this time or the last time, but it is definitely a scratch. Very fine and difficult to see.

I suspect that there must have been an abrasive dust speck.

This makes me think I won't clean it myself again.

The bright side is that this in no way shows up in my pictures.

Thats always been a concern of mine, how hard to press?
so far have cleaned mine once, but hot pixels have started to appear. Anyone know of this solution?

One more reason to buy a new S3 :D ;)
I already have my reason: a dead FireWire port :) :(

I was hesitant to clean my CCD myself, but decided to give it a go. I read the Fuji site and decided to use the Sensor Swabs and Eclipse as they recommended. I've cleaned it several times with good success and without any noticable damage to the CCD upon close examination with a magnifying glass. The swabs are expensive, but they appear to work well along with the Eclipse solution.

So did I. The Swabs/Eclipse really work fine.

Andre,

You may or may not remember my go 'round with what I thought was a scratched ccd. A Fuji tech sent it back to me saying it was scratched, I sent in back in again on the advice of someone from this forum and a different tech put the ccd under a microscope and found no scratches, just some dried solution. Maybe it would be worth your time and postage to send it into NJ for a look see? I would ask them to look at the ccd for scratches. After all, it can't hurt.

There's no mistaking that this is a scratch. I 'scrubbed' at it with my home-made swab just in case, but it's still there. Anyway, I'm not going to worry about it since it does not affect the photographs.
Thanks

Andre,

I did the same thing and 'scrubbed' at mine with 3 different swabs. It didn't budge. I thought it was a scratch. It turned out not to be. Still might be worth the postage, eh?

Then I'd have to go without the camera! :)

But seriously, if there was even the slightest hint of it in my photos I would worry, but the 'scratch' is so fine it doesn't show. I've looked at each color channel for any trace of a mark and there's nothing.

I know what you mean about going without the camera. I am glad the scratch does not show to the naked eye. If it were my camera....I would send it in, but that's just me.

I had this from Fuji UK, they said (very nicely) that the CCD was scratched, but in 'real life' I canot see it at all in any files.

I don't doubrt them, but how many lenses are scratched, or marked, does it affect the final image...?

Can any of us tell from looking at a print, which lens was used (Nikon, Canon, Leica)...?

In a word, nope.

Any one want to buy a 'great' S2 ...?

Hehehehehehe

I still don't see any evidence of the scratch on my pictures. I've stopped worrying about it.

I guess if the scratch was thicker it might show up, but it is very faint.

Too bad the little specks of dust show up!
