What a shame that such a great camera doesn't give us more control on white balance. My E-20 lets you choose many different color temps in kelvins. My S2 only gives a few not so good pre-sets and only two ways to set a custom balance. I wish they had talked to more professional studio photographers before making the camera the way they did.

Actually, the S2, as the S1, allows for total custom white balancing. The whole idea of a custom function is to make it custom. What you are suggesting is a set of white balance pre-sets that may or may not work under the conditions you are shooting. The way it is is much more flexible and efficient.

I know I'm complaining too much. I was just spoiled by the way
Olympus let me set the white balance on the E20. Anyway the S2
works very well or our studio.

I sent an e-mail to Fuji requesting the actual Kelvin values for the various white balance settings. Here is their reply.

Page 71 in the owners manual refers to standard white balance settings available on the FinePix S-2 Pro digital camera.
Sunny 5,500K
Shade 7,000K
Fluorescent 1 Panasonic FL20SS EX-N/18 bulbs
Fluorescent 2 Panasonic FL20SS EX-D/18 bulbs
Fluorescent 3 Panasonic Hitachi FL20SSW/18-B
Incandescent 3,100K
These are the standard color temperatures used in the industry including the standard settings on the S-2. For Fluorescent bulbs, the manufacturers will have the color temperatures for the specified bulb model numbers. Fluorescent generally fall around 3,500K. If you are concerned about using the correct white balance setting, please adjust the custom white balance setting for your particular lighting condition. Note: It is not recommend that a light temperature meter is used for measuring Flourescent because it's a discontinuous light source.
