I just want to be clear....
Do we have to buy the shooting software, or can we download it (from Fujifilm)?

Thanks
Andre

To my knowledge, there is no free source for getting the Hyper-Utility software (with includes Shooting Software and the RAW File Convertor).

Fuji charges for it (quite a bit too!). It is included in the "USA Package" but not in other camera packages sold in many other parts of the world (Canada, for example).

You may be able to find bootleg versions distributed by unethical software pirates, fellow S2 users, lottery winners, Fuji employees, or others, which may be quite reasonably priced.

Ideally, Fuji would provide all the tools required to use their fine camera to its potential, without any post-camera-purchace plundering. I am in favor of Fuji providing the software free - but who am I to request that a huge corporation include a additional 50¢ CD in their $2400 camera packages?

If I was a betting man I would have to bet that Fuji USA decided to put the software in the S2 Pro against the recommendation of Fuji World Wide HQ. Thay may have even fought long and hard for the US consummers need for this product as part of the package. The reality of this situation might be that the US customers are lucky to receive a bonus from their local Fuji executives, and the rest of the world is just following HQ's lead. The US division might also be more powerful within the World Wide Fuji organization and can get away with more than the other geographic divisions.

The divisions decide what accessories and warranty to include and what price to charge. In Japan, camera kits often don't include accessories like AC chargers straps, carrying cases and software. If you buy an appliance it may even ship without an AC plug!

If you don't like it the offering, you can certainly complain to your Fuji Rep, buy from a different country or buy a different camera - but I don't think you get an AC adapter or raw conversion software with your D100 or D1 either, at least not in the US.
