It's worth the price. Definitely. Depending on how you want to pay for it, some people need financing (not that I'll ask if you do), but Ritz camera will do financing, otherwise, there's a website called pricegrabber. Seems to find a lot of good prices out there.

http://pricegrabber.com

Just do a search for "finepix s2 pro" and it'll come up. Also good if you're looking for lenses, I just put in "nikkor 80-200" and it finds it. You can make some choices there, I think I saw the lowest price being 2032.00 or something like that last month.

Make sure that when you put in your order for your Fuji S2, you know what you are paying for.

You want the complete, factory-sealed package. Not all factory-sealed packages are the same. Keep in mind that the "Canadian," "North American," or other country/region packages are different than the "USA" package.

I bought my "North American" package from a shop in Canada. It did not include an AC Adapter (you will need it), or the Hyper-Utility Software (which includes the RAW File Converter, shooting software, etc.). These missing extras are expensive to add later. It's warranty is only good at Fuji-Canada authorized repair facilities (all in Canada). The Canadian models are often several hundred dollars less up front, but when you buy the missing AC Adapter and missing Software, you will be out more than the equivalent USA package.

The "USA" package includes everything, including a USA warranty.

If you live in the USA, I recommend getting the "USA" package. If you are getting a second Fuji S2 camera, I would recommend considering getting the less well-equipped "North American" or "Canadian" model.

USA, North American, and Canadian models are compatible with NTSC video, while European models are compatible with PAL video. I am not sure of other regions' compatiblity.

Is the camera worth it? For me, the answer is yes. Mine paid for itself within a few jobs. If I sell the cameras I own that it replaces, I could buy a few more S2s (or more lenses!:D ) (or pay some medical bills. )

Personally I think it's the best of class camera. I would be very careful where I purchase the camera and avoid deals that seem very good. It is still retailing for $2399. I recommend B&H for their reliability and shipping speed. Same day shipping on most items ordered in the morning. They define their products very clearly...ie, USA or IMPORT, etc...

Topngu, I'd like to hear where you purchase S2 if you don't mind. Was it from a dealer with good reputation? How much do you pay for shipping? I'm currently in the market.

$2350., Central Camera, State st. Chicago, includes shipping. $2300 if bought from a local Ohio dealer.

In general, these are the places that I recommend dealing with:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com
http://www.canogacamera.com
http://www.tallyns.com
http://www.adorama.com
http://www.imaging-spectrum.com
http://www.pictureline.com

All of these places are Fuji authorized and will be selling you a USA kit, so you'll have nothing to worry about. Of course, you'll also pay the full $2399, but you don't want to mess with shady places.

I also recommend that you check http://www.resellerratings.com before buying online as you can see other peoples' experiences.

If you can, buy from a reputable dealer. The advantages are many but mainly you benefit from having a relationship with a store that knows your needs and desires and can steer you in the right direction when it comes to accessories and lenses (and it will come to that!). Also you can get immediate answers to your questions and technical assistance when you need it. Most sales people want to earn your trust, it's in their best interest to have it. If you have to pay a bit more for this kind of attention and service IMHO it's worth it.

Sure we all want a good deal .... but don't let that blind you to the service that a first class photo retailer can provide. And in case you are wondering I don't sell cameras for a living, I sell photos. I've learned over the years that the camera store can be one of the most important members of my team.

Bottom line - find a good dealer then negotiate a fair price, don't try for a great price and then expect to have the best dealer in town, it usually doesn't work that way.

If you have the American Express card buy the camera wherever you find the most reputable dealer, such as B&H. Then find the cheapest price, even an internet ad and AE will refund the difference up to $250.

I did it and it was great because not only did I give my business to a local store, (Alkit) they took an hour going over the camera with me. That's service!

Here are the details:
Best Value Guarantee
Getting the best value on your purchases is easy. Best Value Guarantee ensures that you pay the lowest price available on covered items purchased entirely with an eligible American Express Card. If, within 60 days, you find an identical item to the one you just purchased with the Card advertised in print at a lower price than you originally paid, American Express will reimburse the difference in price to you, up to $250 per item.

Simply call 1-800-557-8317 for additional questions or to initiate your request for a refund. You will then be asked to send us the printed dated advertisement, your American Express record of charge, and the store receipt within 90 days of your purchase. We will gladly honor your request for a refund on a savings of $10 or more. Refunds are limited to up to $250 per item and up to $1,000 annually per Card Account. Please see additional limitations.

I did it and got the check from AE in about 2 weeks. The quote in my previous post was directly from their website. If you want to be really sure, call the 800 number and tell them your plan, the will confirm the policy. Have fun and good luck!

I am looking to buy Fuji S2 and I find in google search few web sites with lower prices for Fuji S2 marked as $1599 the link is:http://www.digitalliquidators.com/detail.asp?pid=Fjfps2&l=streetprices or another one for $1809 the links is :http://www.bwayphoto.com/product.asp?item=Fjfps2&l=pricescan and many more?
Both web sites has Physical locations and people can walk in. My question is if they are grantee the camera is brand new and factory fresh (in web site), so why I should pay to B&H $2250 for the same camera which I did not get good customer support from them in past ?::confused:
Please help me on this.
Thanks

You know what scares me about these two sites?

They're both in New York.
They both have the same address at 2922 Ave. L
They have much different prices on each website.
They have very similiar websites, in fact, thier web servers are hosted at the same location at Datapeer in New Jersey.

Why would they have two different prices and pretty much the same website at the same location with the same contact address under two different names?

Even two of the exact same phrases:

Everything we carry is brand new and factory fresh!
This hard to find camera is now in stock, so quickly place your order!

If you're close enough to them to actually walk in to thier "store", I'd do that and make sure you're comfortable with them and make sure it's not a grey market item as well as making sure the serial number isn't an old one.

I'd be wary. Very.

You might have to purchase bunch of overpriced accessories and extened warranties to get GREY MARKET Fuji S2 at that price range.

Check these below links.

gtis beat me to it. Definitely check the links he listed. Yes, Bwayphoto does have a storefront. Apparently, that's about all it is. Doesn't sound like a place I would want to walk into.

And they are also know for having more than one storefront on the internet as swampy101 noted. A good way to avoid all the bad ratings they have as bwayphoto.com.

Do yourself a huge favor. If you can't afford the $2399 from a reputable dealer, hold off on buying the camera. After doing just a small amount of research, it became quite clear, quite fast to me that you really don't want to deal with any of the low price internet stores. It is very temping to try and save money this way, but I have no doubt that you will end up regretting it.

As they say, "there is a fool born every minute, and two to take him". Please do more investigation before you purchase.
