A quick question to the masses re: import duty to the UK.

If my uncle in Toronto were to buy me a copy of PS CS for an upgrade fee of US$299 versus a UK upgrade fee of £495 and was to send it to me as a birthday present, would I have to pay customs duty on the said software?

In addition to the potential customs problem, is there a problem with activation if I buy a US/Canadian copy of the software and activate it in the UK?

Cheers

I don't know about UK duty, but your uncle would have to pay Canadian Sales Tax on it... depending on the province he lives in, that can be as high as 18% (if I remember correctly - fellow Canucks, correct me if I am wrong).

Mind you, it is still cheaper than buying the software in the UK...

The rules in UK are that presents cannot be of value more than £30.
Therefore strictly speaking you should declare it and pay the import duty.

In reality most people just do it and dont declare.

Yes the product should work but if you have PS7.01 the upgrade is only £156 in UK so why not go that route?
