Bill Monroe, the father of bluegrass music, passed away a few years back. These are pencil drawings that artist, Willard Gayheart rendered. One of the members of Monroe's band, The Bluegrass Boys, is setting up a "Bluegrass Boys Website". The posters will be on sale there. This fellow wanted me to take photos of the posters to place on the site. I used a hot light, the S2, and 3 beers.

My mother was an English teacher. Don't tell her I spelled, "Sketches" incorrectly. I was demoted from the 6th to the 3rd grade in Catholic Catechism. I can't stand any more set-backs at this stage.

I hope you got a set for yourself (in trade) of course?
I saw Monroe on The Tonight Show a few years back and he told the story of how they were asking him if this boy named "Elvis" could cover one of his songs and he said 'OK', but really didn't like the way he did "Blue Moon of Kentucky" He said it just didn't sound right to him...then one day this Brinks truck pulled up in front of his house and they started to throw bags of money out of the truck...the whole truck...it was royalties from the sales of Elvis covering his song...He said after that..."He can play an song of mine he likes...He's a good man"

Pretty funny what a truck load of money will do to your taste...lol

Thanks for the compliments. Yeh, I did get a set of the prints in trade for photographing them. Now, I have to fire up the table saw and router to make some frames. I have some old wormy chestnut wood that will be just the thing.

5string,

Wonderful shots and the pencil sketches are really great. I am a big bluegrass fan. Do you have the actual ULR for the"Bluegrass Boys Website" ? Also, do you know in what sizes the posters will offered? Willard Gayheart is a very talented artist. I was born and raised in the mountains of Eastern Tennessee and as they say "you can take a hillbilly out of the hills but can't take the hills out of the hillbilly". I Plan on moving back at retirement.

Hey, ye ol' coot,

The Bluegrass Boys website isn't up and running just yet. However, you can purchase these prints from another source at:

Exceptional... I love bluegrass... Bill Monroe.. definite greatness. I'm a jazz pianist who loves country and bluegrass.. I go to Nashville every year to catch some opry ... several years ago i was there and ricky scaggs(sp) was performing and his mom had died that day.. He wrote a blue grass tune on the spot about his mom that started out... She's dead now... Great stuff... down to earth.. real people stuff.. no pretending here.. no rap anger ... no phony pop stuff.. just real people stuff...
