Long lenses, indoor shots and evening/night shots outside are when I use a tripod.

I use a tripod any time I am getting paid for my photography (usually product or location subjects). I did some shots on a sunny day, using a 14mm lens, and still used a tripod, to insure the sharpest possible results, and the most careful framing possible. By using a tripod, I am able to concentrate on composition, exposure, and subject matter in discrete steps, rather than all at once.

I generally use a monopod anytime I use my 80-210 zoom or 400mm lens. I rarely, if ever use these lenses on paid shoots, but rather on personal shooting sprees.

I don't use a tripod when I am shooting family gatherings, or situations where I am trying to get candid shots.

I did not see how to submit a vote in the poll.

I think you can't vote because someone set the poll to close after a week or so.

I use a tripod when I NEED a tripod for stability or reproducing a setup: Long lenses, macros, copy work, tilt&shift lenses, tabletop.

I also sometimes use a tripod when photographing groups because I need to walk up and refine poses.

Matt

Interesting, Matt. I didn't even know there was a timeout field. Anyway, I extended the poll to 999 days. I hope that's ok with NIKKOR. :)
