Can anybody please advise on the best 3CCD camcorder within $1,500 margin?
I understand there are two main contenders: Sony VX2000 and Canon GL2. Which would be the best?

Thanks.

I got a buddy that does semi-pro work with the Sony and he loves it.

Igor,

I purchased the VX2000 last summer for work, and absolutely love it. My final two were the same as you listed here, but the low light performance of the VX2000 was better than the GL2 IMHO. It pulls color out of the shadows better than my own eyes. (kind of like the way the S2 pulls green out of grass)

I wish a battery charge lasted longer, and I wish it was smaller (if you use the viewfinder, the front of the camcorder is out as far as your 80-400 on the S2).

the sony DCR330E looks really cool!
Im lusting after one.
Its super small like a TRV 33E so it doesnt look professional but it shoots a 3mgpxl still photo!
Does bluescreen, SUPER nite shot - lenses are cheap-no underwater housing yet but im sure it`l get there.
mmmmmmmmmmm.............

I was in a documentary last year in which all the underwater shooting was done on a vx2000, and one about 2 years ago that was shot on a vx1000. In my experience they're amazing cameras and I've found all of our personal sony video gear to be totally reliable. I'm sure the Canon is fantastic as well, but you're a Nikon man - it just wouldn't be right:D

I'd say buy for the future. Go buy the JVC HD Camcorder. :)

Looks cool, have you seen the quality of the video shot with this one?
BTW, what is that "HD technology" spoken about ??

I'd go with the Sony's too Igor,
our Documentary students here use a variety of older
PDA 100's, PD 150's and VX2000's.

The Canon while taking EOS lenses, (non of your Nikkor arsenal :D ), is ergonomically, a beast to use
and the earlier GL1's had sound sync and Time Code issues when editing.

For a prosumer version, the Sony 950 is also worth a look,
depends on your sound requirements.

Sorry Igor, am I reading a tired English conversion or are you asking what HD is?

Thanks Serge.

Bryan,
yes, I was asking about what HD stands for. Now I know it's for HI DEFINITION video, correct?

Yes. High Definition. If you haven't seen it, you're missing the world. Too bad more people don't broadcast in it. A lot of people's first experiences with it is that they'll look at it at a friends house or store for 15 minutes, then complain that the real world doesn't have the right look anymore, not as sharp and contrasty. haha.

3CCD need very good lighting, if not, you are not going to see a lot of difference with Elura
