Has anyone noticed the shutter release on the S2 being a bit sluggish? I just switched from a Canon D30. While I'm loving the S2 overall, I'm having trouble getting used to the slower shutter release. It seems to have a lag between pushing the release to take the picture and actually recordeing the image.

It's more likely that the sluggishness you percieve is due to the lens you're using than the camera. Some lenses are more sluggish and take longer to crank into focus. AF-S (Nikon) or HSM (Canon) lenses have focusing motors built into the lenses. These lenses respond much faster. If you want to see what the shutter lag really is, turn the AF switch off and take some shots. When the camera isn't waiting for AF, there isn't much perceptible lag time.

I thought that I would never pick up my F100 again but when I want speed and a lot of frames per second then the S2 just isn't the best choice. The F100 will focus and shoot several frames in the time it takes the S2 to get off one frame. So I decided to keep the old F100 around. I will also not hesitate to use a Hasselblad when I want killer quality. However, since I bought my S2 I have been using the other cameras less and less. This digital stuff has put new life into my photography. I also got word that our custom lab is going all digital. If we send them a negative the will scan the thing into one of their computers and do all the retouching and artwork digitally. So I figure that negatives and enlargers are rapidly becoming a thing of the past.

Someone suggested that activating the red eye reduction might cause the lag. I turned it off and the lag is totally gone. Since I mostly shoot with an external flash, I don't think this will cause me much of a problem.

I do recall a discussion somewhere else that the shutter on the S2 is slower than some other models. In addition, the low fps makes it unuseable for some applications...ie, sports photography.
