OK, this is probably a very basic question that I should already know the answer to, but I don't......

Why is it that when I open up the original TIFF or JPEG files (sRGB) my S2 produces with Photoshop they look great, but then when I view the same image in a web browser they are about 10 shades darker? The shadow details disappear and colors are too dark.

I think it is a difference in Gamma. Photoshop probably has some monitor profile running (could be something you selected or a default) that your browser doesn't know anything about.

gamma on a mac is 1.8 and 2.2 on a pc. See how close you came.
