Swampy, with all your new Xmas kit burned in and stable, can you give us a 'real world' speed test...?
I saw on Rob Galbraith's site his PC v Mac test of this year (PC won... again)
I think it took him 6.1 seconds to open 1 raw S2 file in Cd and I think just under 30 seconds to open 5.
How does your new kit do compared to this...?

In CS you mean?
I'll have to try it.

Hmm. Thought it was going to be slow cause I'm at work. But, Anyway, quick test, I'll try it again when I get home. Even using the high CPU usage VNC to remote control my machine at home, it took approximately 4 seconds to load a single RAF into PS CS. I'll do it again with a different file when I get home and use a stopwatch as well. I'm sure the 5 files will load pretty fast too. My machine should smoke just about any Mac on the market right now. I've overclocked it as well, so my memory is running close to 1ghz vs. 800mhz and my processor is somewhere around 3.5ghz I think. :)
I need to find a switch that can handle the packets, but my Quake 3 online game, even locally is pumping out 1400 frames per second, but the switch is crapping it out at that, I'm sure it can do more. hahah.

Awesome,
PC's have been smoking MAC's for a while now... Rob's test was neutral and out of 77 photo related tests Mac's on won 15....
But remember they are pretty to look at.
Have a great weekend and let us know how you get on with the test when you get home.

3.14 seconds to load one file. I have 15 icons showing in the tray, a couple of IE's open, Outlook 2003 open (with a 1 gig PST file), a few trillian windows open and a word document open.
I don't get how he is opening up 5 files in CS at once. Mine only lets me open 1 file at a time. :(

I t's late here but I think he may have set up an automated task.... I'll check and experiment more later today Isat) after some sleep.
Three seconds is quick, just think, you shoot a cards worth of RAW's.
And while your model is having her hair re done, they can be on your desktop and contact sheets made in minutes.
If you want to give your pc a hard time, take 80 raw's and get cs to make you up a contact sheet of that file...
It converts the raws, then shrinks them to jpeg lots of number crunching...
Later,

9.5 minutes to create a contact sheet from 60 RAF's.

The import dbx file (http://www.oemailrecovery.com) and dbx file recovery (http://www.mail-repair.com) has prompted you a path of the Outlook Express files' storage. And now save the damaged dbx files in the safe folder, they can be useful.
