I'm looking for a crazy ex-film user to donate a SUPER HIGH QUALITY film scanner. I don't really want to keep it. I just want to borrow it. But owning is nice.

$800-$2400
Digital ICE
non-SCSI

Will pay shipping or coupon for free local hooker.

Publishing Perfection (www.publishingperfection.com) sells lots of gear and software aimed at publishers and graphic production businesses.

They sell several brands of scanners, new and refurbished. I would go with a refurbished one.

They selling refurbished Nikon Super Coolscan 4000 (Windows or Mac) for $899. It is probalby as good as is gets for 35mm. 4.2 dyanamic range, 4000 dpi, FireWire (IEEE1394), 48-bit, file sizes up to 130MB.

I own a SCSI Nikon LS 2000 and like it. I need to keep it to occasionally scan in old slides and negs.

Tom,

I also have the 'old' LS 2000 and now that I have xp, I had to invest in a new, compatible scsi card. I don't know if I need to work more on calibration or what, but my images scanned now seem flat. Yes, I know I can't compare them to my wonderful S2 images, but I am comparing to my previous scans. The new ones lose.

Any hints?

Not a bad scanner for around $900 US. But, it's a dedicated 35mm scanner. Won't do medium format film. And batch scanning isn't as easy as running uncut film rolls through Nikon's high end scanner. So far I've been very pleased with it's performance.
