View Full Version : Noise In Background

I just purchased a Fuji S2 and shot a few wedding portraits with the camera (mainly close-ups). I noticed in the background of the pictures, where there was a gray shadow from the Baptismal area, there was a lot of noise in the area. My camera was set on: ISO 200, Picture Quality - FINE, Resolution 4250, Shutter Speed 125th, F-Stop 8.0, and I was using studio lights. I'm just wondering why there was so much noise in the gray area? If this is what digital photography brings, then I'm not sold on the idea. Please help me! Thank You!

Can you show us the image?
There should be very little noise at ISO200 with this camera, that's been miy experience... certainly when compared to 35mm film grain.
Zooming in at extreme magnification can make it look worse than it really is when printed.
That's the only explanation I can offer.
Andy.

Here is a sample of my image with me circling the inperfections. I scaled down the image to a 4x6 inch size and DPI @ 150 for you people to view.

Thanks,
.. but I can't see the noise.
.. unless you mean the large-scale mottling which I assume is on the background itself.

The main mottled area on the right looks like it may be a reflection off of the background caused by one of your lights. It does not look like noise or at least any noise I've seen in this camera or others I've owned- it's just too big.

I recently developed the film for the wedding and the same background came out. Sh*#! Now I have to scan all the negatives in order to correct the pictures in 4 rolls of film for the customer to be happy. I have the technology to do this, but it's going to take longer than I want to make the customer and me satisfied.
Thank you to all who replied...

The "noise" was in the background. No problem regarding the S2. I just wanted to stress to the new comers with digital photography. Do not rely on your light meter when shooting...rely on the histogram. The histogram says everything about the exposure!
Thanks again for all the responses.
I hope I helped some others as well as myself.:) :)
