Just wanted to know if anyone has experience using either the Nikon 24-120 or the Nikon 35-70mm F2.8. I just wanted to know your opinion on which lens would be better for daytime shooting and with disregard to the different focal ranges. I just want to have a lens that will take sharper pictures. I'm new to photography so any help would be much appreciated! Thanks

Thank you for the great links and for reminding me of the typo in the body of my previous post!

I have used this lens extensively on my F4 and S2 and love it. I only use it though when I need a zoom. I prefer to shoot with the 50 f1.4. I find that lens EXTREMELY sharp, easy to use, and tiny (fits into small bags).
enjoy,

I use the lens a lot. I shoot quite a bit using studio strobes with the camera set to manual exposure mode. I find it invaluable to have a zoom that does not change aperture as you zoom - in fact, I don't think I would buy a zoom lens that has a variable aperture.
I find the lens very sharp, handy, sturdy, etc.
Keep in mind that on the S2, with the camera's 1.5x lens factor, the 35-70mm range is the equivalent to 52~105mm on a film camera, which is not wide-angle at all. The focal length range on the S2 is perfect for portraits.

I used the 35-70.f2.8 on both film and digital cameras for about a year. I finally traded it in on a Nikon 28-105. The 28-105 had a (for me) much more usable zoom range and was a lot lighter to carry. At f8 and 11 you can't tell the difference between the two lenses. FWIW. cheers

You're comparing an economical 5x zoom with a top-end short range zoom. As for daylight, the 35-70 will have less flare, and higher contrast. Both lenses/camera/photographer systems will weigh about the same, after the $$$ have been removed from your wallet. ;)
Seriously, the 35-70 is a heavier lens! BTW, I'd take the 24-85/G AFS over the 24-120 any day of the week.

Matt
