Thought I might mention Canvas from ACDSee (formerly from Deneba). Great combination vector/rastor editing program. You can do all the image editing, artwork, etc., and then set type, do complete page layout, etc. all in the same program. No need to jump back and forth.

Nope, don't work for them and it takes a bit of time to trasistion from Pshop to Canvas (different procedures for some things. Just thought I'd mention it as an option.

Real Draw Pro - from www.mediachance.com - deserves to have a serious look at.

I have been using it since it came 3 years ago or so for basically all designwork needed done.

Its a combined vector-raster software as well - with a lot of good ideas and stuff not to be found in any other software.
best of all - its Shareware.

I'll check it out. While I really like Photoshop, have used it since it was new, and keep up with the latest version (except CS), I've always thought it silly to not consider other options for my work processes.

Besides, it's a kick to try new things!
