Ok, I have a Manfrotto 055 that's giving up after 20 years. I also have a Manfrotto075 which is nice in the studio but a bit bulky and heavy for location. I have pan heads and (old but still working fine)Gitzo ball heads for both. In addition I have a Manfrotto monopod with a Manfrotto small ball head.

The 055 is about the right size and weight, if maybe a bit short for me, but it's just worn out. I might just get another one but I'd like to know if anyone out there has a favourite 'pod that they'd reccomend. Since I have enough heads, it's just a good set of "sticks" I'm interested in.

Most of my work on location is corporate or public relations. I also use a tripod for nature and landscape work from time to time. The longest lens I normally use is a 200mm. Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

Many thanks!

Talk about breathing life into an old thread, geesh! I did a search for 'monopod' to see what the gang would suggest. My tripod is just too darn bulky to carry up the side of a mountain. What monopod and head combo would you suggest? And Lightwrangler, what did you end up buying?

Personally, I like the Benbo Tripod 1 with the bogen 3265 head. This is a pretty light and very versatile tripod.

Just my 2 cents.

Bear,

I ended up with a new Manfrotto 055 pro B. I jazzed it up with spiked feet (I am outside a lot) and leg warmers (it's cold for months in Toronto). On top I put one of my old Gitzo ball heads. It works very well. I just went with what I knew and was comfortable with. While a carbon tripod was something I really wanted I didn't have it in the budget at the time. This is a good tripod, my last one went 20 years and the replacement wasn't too expensive.

Cheers,
LW

PS - still use the manfrotto ballhead on the manfrotto monopod too.

Thanks, guys. Yeah, this is an old thread. I am sure in need of a good monopod and ball head. I'll take a look at the suggestions. Thanks again.
